This may sound a little weird but I have found that if my mouth constantly tastes like toothpaste (wintergreen, spearmint, etc.) It makes sweet foods taste bad. Not to say you need to brush your teeth 100 times a day, but I usually have some sugar free mints or gum handy or I use a dab of toothpaste. It seems to keep me away from the vending machine at work. It's kind of like when you brush your teeth and then try to drink orange juice. It just doesn't taste good. Plus I drink a lot of water and I do not have any tempting foods on hand at home.

Been there-and still getting through that! I switched all my soda to sparkling water (seltzer) and lime juice for flavor. Now I do not touch Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper etc. My teeth thank me too! I also started to drink really cold water when I get a soda urge.
Carbs: I am a vegetarian. and I try to eat Kosher on top of that.
I had to resort to drastic measures. I would read the ingredients in the items I loved: Keebler anything, potato chip anything-corn chips-pretzels-milk chocolate candy-and I would pop the ingredient name into the computer. What I found out is that most of the stuff in food will kill you!. (true, it takes time, and I am sure every fatalist out there will say "you're gonna die anyway!!"
but if it doesnt have to be from some cancer causing chemical that eats away at my brain I would like to make that choice, thank you!)
Now I eat all natural, and since that is expensive to do, I actually eat less. I have lost 15 pounds so far, and have more to go, but gone are the headaches and toothaches and I feel in control.
If nothing else, try the ice cold water trick. Good water, like Crystal Geyser, Arrowhead etc. Not a sports drink and heavens no tap water! Stick the bottle in the freezer till it is slightly slushy and glug away when the soda bug bites!
Good luck!

Start drinking more water, just don't drink any more soda and drink all water. Also limit your carbs to no potatos and anything whole grain. That should take care of those too. The first week will be the hardest but after that your body will get used to the change.

Here is what you need to do, if you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off. Eat 6 small meals a day about every 4 hours. Here what that will do for you, your metabolism will increase (i.e. Loose weight) and you will have more engry. If you go on a diet and eat less, your metabolism will slow down and store to fat. That is why diets dont work. Only the size of your fist, carbs (examples:baked potato, pasta, oatmeal, beans, corn, melon, apples, fat free yogurt, whole wheat breads)in one and protien (examples:chicken breast, swordfish, shrimp, turkey breast) in the other. You can also eat vegetables and salads with any meal, they dont have none or little fat). 30min cardo exercise every day. Any of these(examples: walking, jogging, swimming, running, biking, ect), Monday cardo, tues upper body (arms: curls, tricep extensions, pull ups, front press)(abdominals: leg pull crunch, leg raises), (chest: bench press, butterfly, pullover)(shoulders: front press, arm pullover, cross county skier machine)(back:seated row, lat pull downs, back extension)(YOU DONT HAVE TO DO IN ONE DAY, mix it up) wed cardo, thurs lower body (legs: leg pull, leg press, squats, lounges) fri cardo, sat upper. Sunday eat anything you want and dont exercising, you do this on sunday so your body doesnt go into starvation mode. YOU NEED TO TAKE SUNDAY OFF. If you stilck with this you will have a great body. also drink aleast 8oz of water daily! Stay away from Mcdonals, Wendys, ect because there is nothing good for you on the menu's even the salads are bad (beaon bits, cheeze, dressing, ect) Good Luck :)

I used to be addicted to soda. Now I'm addicted to water. Try drinking only water for at least 2 weeks. And I'm talking a lot of water, roughly half a gallon a day, at least. At the end of the second week, soda will taste too sweet to drink.

You are actually addicted to refined sugar and caffeine, both of which are drugs, albeit legal ones.
This article explains the addiction in detail:

Diet sodas are no better and normally promote wight gain as they cause more hunger pangs do to their prevention of protein absorption and the signal they send to the brain that calories on on the way when they are nutritionally void. Read up on what white sugar and high fructose corn syrup does to the body. You already know one: they make you gain weight. However, remember, not all carbs are bad. Carbs = energy, so you need good carbs to keep ya running.

Everytime u feel like drinking soda, stare at this picture:

or this one (it's worse):

or this experiment:

It doesn't matter how well you brush your teeth because soda has acid that erodes the enamel covering your teeth (which is supposed to protect ur teeth from stains and stuff). After the enamel is gone, ur teeth will rot. You can't replace enamel. You'll probably just have to buy an expensive set of new teeth. Lovely isn't it?

Coke Zero is amazing.
And try eating Salads, they can be really addicting and are much healthier than carb-loaded alternatives.
