You don't pull yourself out. You get help. If you broke your arm, you'd go to the doctor and get it set in a cast, right? If you had diabetes, you'd take your insulin. Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance. Although studies have found that emotional triggers can set off the imbalance, it still becomes a physical/emotional issue that needs professional help.

Don't be afraid to ask for it.

I went into a deep depression last year. I was put on medication for about six months, and it helped a lot. (Everyone is different; some need medication for longer periods of time.) I no longer need the meds, but I'm so grateful they were available, along with counselling, when I needed them.

The sooner you get help, the sooner you'll get better. There's a diagnostic tool on www.depressionhurts.com that can help you assess your situation.

In addition to going to a Dr. (to prescribe medication for the chemical imbalance making the depression worse) and a therapist (who can help you shake this depression and give you the tools to prevent future depressive periods) you can try things like being in the sun more -- tanning (I know it sounds like it couldn't help but your body needs the sun to produce vitamin D and this vitamin is in turn needed for seratonin levels in the body which ultimately affect your mood.)
You can also try adding things into your routine to keep you busy with other people and with definite plans that you can't break. Join a gym and take the workout classes they offer, enroll in a college class or something and make sure you keep in touch with friends. I know these things are hard to start but once you do it they really help. I was really depressed about a year ago and I'm so glad I went to the Dr. and got help because it almost immediately helped. So, for whatever reason you are asking - good luck and as others have said, depression isn't something you will just pull out of. It's like having high blood pressure; it's an illness that you can and should get treatment for.

Why are you depressed? Do you have two left feet or what?

Being depressed is nasty, at best. I think every one becomes depressed at some time in their lives. possibly when you finally realize you are the author of your life. can't hide behine Mommy and Daddy or blame it on an abussive husband. It is your life, be creative and have fun. Look inside of your self, what makes you smile, what makes you cry, what pleasures you, what would you like to do. Make it happen! Sometimes the very people around are your worst enemies, they support you in your depression. By this they can controll you, or no suprises here! Be thankfull, is a good start if you can't do anything else. Look around you at others, it should not take long to find some one that is worse of than you. be thankfull for the sun shine, rain, and baby smiles.
I know that some times the very people you think can help are the ones that grab the handle when all you can do is hold on to the toilet bowl rim, and they flush. maybe you don't need them in your life and life is telling you to move on! love ya!

You can do it, i was in a deep depression a long time ago, and what make me feel good, was looking something to do, do something that really likes me, for example, you can sing, dance, jump, go to the gym, try to do your life and find out the thing that are keeping you in depression? Find the reason, and remove it from your life forever. I know it's hard, but if you wish with all your heart find the way out, you will be able to find the way.

You can seek professional help and get prescribed medications and some therapy. Naturally, sunshine and exercise can help bring out your endorphines to improve your depression. Examining your life and changing what is causing your depression can help tremendously. But I would still suggest you speak with someone.

Go for a vacation somewhere far away like Hunza Valley in Pakistan. Join a tour where you can meet people.

A doctor's help would be preferable, maybe a therapist, some anti-depressants. Going it alone isn't easy, look at the suicide rate.

I went soul searching, had lots of alternative therapies and came to the realization that pharmaceuticals aren't in it to make me better.
Now when it gets all too much i have acupuncture or reflexology, depending on what is hurting most, my body or mind. (acupuncture for the mind, reflexology for the body)
