That is just a motto to get departments more money. If they really did protect and serve, they wouldn't give so many tickets for very minor offences, making angry drivers a real danger to traffic.

That is a good question. I was a Deputy Sheriff back in the late 70's. I never heard of anyone in our department or the police department doing such a thing. There are bad apples everywhere and especially in law enforcement. Sometimes the reason for spouse abuse is that an officer takes his frustration of his job out on the closet person around. Other reasons are they are just bad people that should never have gotten into law enforcement. There is no way to know that a future law enforcement officer is abusive. Most departments do not put up with that kind of behavior and will approach the problem.
Hope this has answered your question.

the failed "EDUCATIONAL" system has failed in teaching you the meaning of words...
when you read on the side of a police car... " To Serve and Protect the Public " your next question should be... " Who is the public?" according to the 1930's Webster before the Neocons started to change the meaning of words to undermine the constitution and the laws of our country... the "Public" is the government... but you wouldn't know that because you have been educated in a federalized school system, which doesn't teach people to think but instead it teaches people what to think.. thus creating a generation of people who have no love or value toward the Constitution because they've never even bothered to read it...
how can you protect something you don't even understand... and look up a word from time to time and stop letting FOX NEWS telling you what to think... learn to think,
our forefathers were in their 20's when they wrote the constitution... anything is possible... the past generation were poetic ... well versed and well educated... today we just have Rap and crack and criminals to decide what is good for us...
don't be a sheeple...

Because there was a new rule that the police department
had to look like the public (whites, blacks, mexicans, thugs,
jailbirds, out-of-jobbers etc.), so they had to hire a bunch
of misfits who could care less about "protect and serve"
and more about the uniform of looking important and the
paycheck.

I can't IMAGINE HOW MANY policemen you must have interviewed to be able to make a statement like this. God, you must have done your whole doctoral thesis on it! Next time some thug is beating the crap out of you in some dark alley call an interior decorator to help you out.

They wear a badge! That changes everything, same where I live. Most ppl here will tell you in our small town you dont get much protection, you get to be a victim when you are in need... Your well enough turning the other cheek and save yourself the headache if you want protection. Big badge them and little us.....
in todays times we are the nobodies!

Police officers are angry and they do not know how to redirect that anger in a good way so they beat the hell out of their spouse

Very few officers do any abuse, but there are some that do, just like some plumbers, just like some school teachers, just like some farmers,
