Compact flash 1 = thinner, solid state, more resistent to knocks and drops.

Compact flash 2 = thicker, uses a mini harddisk inside, normally costs less per megabyte then Compact flash 1 card.

Well, Compact Flash is a solid state memory as CF type 2 is a miniture spinning hard drive.

Compact Flash is better overall: More compatibility, speed, less battery consumption

Type 2: uses more power, delicate, cheaper in price, large compacity for less money, for pros who need space.

The actual difference between the two is physical thickness...Type I is 3.3mm compared to Type II which is 5mm. Meaning you could use both types in a Type II slot, but in a Type I slot one can only use Type I compact flash. Outside of physical thickness the two types are identical.

While it is true Type II uses more power it is also true the write speed of Type II is faster comparative to type I. It is thought access speeds are nearly doubled depending on the type of product the memory is used in and what type of DMA speed the product has...It is also true some Type II CF is of a micro drive type, but one can also purchase purchase Type II in smaller values not having micro drive.

Type II is generally more expensive.

Hope this helps
