I am very curious, I would love to hear from people who have used Priceline to bid for airfare and their experiences with it. I am scared to death, but apparently you can get some great deals...for instance do you end up on flights that have 3 connecting flights? If you bid on 4 tickets..will you all get on the same plane? Thank you so much for all your input!

Great deals can come at a cost. The bulk consolidator websites like Priceline buy tickets in large quantities from the airlines. They are the bottom tier most restricted fares. These fares are so restricted that you can not make any changes to them what so ever. Airlines will not touch them to make changes or upgrade them. These websites also sell some of the most rediculous schedules I have ever seen with lengthy lay overs and connection points way out of the way. Ive even seen them sell illegal connections. Most cities a legal connection is 30 minutes or more. In some airports, 30 minutes still isnt enough time. Ive seen these websites sell a 20 min connection.

Whatever website you use, the most important thing is to READ THE FARE RULES. Most times you can get a fare that is close to the price you find on these websites on the airlines websites. You know what you are buying, you know the schedules and routes and have more options for non-stop flights.

Just do your research and what ever avenue you choose, make sure you are comfortable before purchasing. I have seen more people get burned using these websites for airline travel than not. Hotels and rental cars, Ive never had a problem. But air travel can be really bad should things go wrong or you miss a flight. The airlines can do nothing to change these tickets and you are at the mercy of that website's Customer No Service Department to make any changes.

So far I've never heard of someone getting put on different flights when booking multiple tickets. However, I have heard of a lot of problems with using these features. The main problem is that you have to take what you end up getting, regardless of what comes up.

I've also heard of a lot of people putting in they want none stop flights, specific times, etc. only to end up getting completely different air than what they had put in. But, the system came back with a "match" booked the ticket and there was nothing that could be done.

I have heard of a lot of people getting pretty good deals using the site, but there is always the risk that something will go wrong. I prefer working directly with the airline or my travel agent to prevent problems, but you won't be able to get the better savings as you could with Priceline.
