What gives people the right to but into the lives of a 21 year old guy dating a 50 year old guy? Can't they just leave the two of them alone and accept that?

Beats me. I've got no problem with what people to do with their personal life. It's your life - do what you want with it. The same goes for the people bothering you, they can do what they want with their lives, but they should leave everyone else be.

My mother-in-law and her husband are 27 years apart in age. They have been together for over 11 years and they are still going strong! They are a really sweet couple and it shows that they care and love each other very much.
Other people DON'T have the right to butt into their lives but strangers will sometimes ask them if they are "together" or if she's his daughter or whatever and they usually just bust out laughing and don't even dignify their questions with any response because it's so rude! No one would care if the two of them were the same age, so why are they so interested because of the age difference? People just want a reason to criticize and judge --probably because they don't have enough going on in their own lives.

If it's not a big deal to you then that's how you should act.
Is it possible that you don't really seem all that comfortable in your relationship and that's what's causing people to mettle?
But if the two of you really are happy then express that with confidence.

Good luck!

This is not an etiquette question. If you are happy together that's all that matters. Don't worry about what people say. Tell them it's none of there business. Love is blind..and when it's right it's right. You never need to defend that.

It has to do with the age diffrence rule. 21 is more than a quarter of 50. As a general rule, if the younger person is more than a quarter of the older person's life years younger, than its a little bit awkard, sort of a craddle robbing relationship.

No.

People is very insecure, and feel threatened by anything that is different from what they were told was right.

Always remember that people getting into your life gives you the right to tell them what you do it's not their business.

I married a guy 24 years older than me.. we had a kid.. he died when kid was 5yrs old.. the marriage wasnt great really and I would say most of the problems were age difference.. so people butt in because they care.

I'm sure the people butting into their relationship, are worried that the older man is taking advantage of the younger man.
