Ok. I have chatted with Satanists on Yahoo! Message boards. Why, if you do not believe in God, do you call yourselves Satanists? I have heard the rules (11 of them I think) and they are excellent rules to live by. And I understand your desire to be on the complete oppostire spectrum of Christians (and all denominations thereof). But why call yourselves Satanists if you do not believe in the existence of him?
And I'm not Christian or any denomination thereof, this is an honest, curious questin.

These are the 11 rules:

and the 9 sins:

Actually, some of their rules are pretty cohesive with Christianity, just worded a little differently with a bit of variance of what they consider important.

Sanstheism, I'm not surprised at all though. I knew that asking the question meant that I would get rhetoric from people who don't know much about it, but it's all good. Everyone has a right to their opinion and to voice it.
I would just really like to hear from a Satanist or someone who has really studied it to give me an honest answer. It kind of confuses me a bit. They don't believe in God, and therefore, don't beleive in Satan yet use that name as the forefront of their belief, which after reading the rules again, I don't really see as negative or evil at all.

Charmelion, isn't that being just as bad as the far right wing christian who tells me I'm going to hell even though I'm a good person who doesn't steal, lie, cheat. I work hard and love my family and friends very much, make sure that my actions don't harm, or at least don't harm too much if necessary. All because I don't believe in Jesus as the Saviour. IMHO, it is just as bad to behave like that. To condemn someone based simply on the fact that they believe something that is not the same as I beleive.

I was doing laundry at the laundromat, Legnahidden, and I gave my son the socks to put together and told him to enjoy. He said "How can I enjoy putting socks together". I said "It's your choice to have a good time or not, take your pick."
Basically, what you were saying about the world sucking, well it does, but its up to you to make your personal world a happy one. You can have a miserable life, but still smile and enjoy yourself during the ride, it's up to you.

I think it's mainly shock value and to clearly differentiate them from the standard religious affiliations.

To Screw with Christian's Jews and Muslims. We'd much rather be friends with buddists who belive change comes from the person not a God. Most "Satanists are in Christain/Judeao countries and do not like the idea of an imposed God. They belive that only humans can change the world. I'm still stuck on agnostic deism myself. But I know many a Satanists and there's nothing wrong with what they belive. Small minded rightwing Christians couldn't belive that somthing other than Christainty could be. They use it as a shield and anything that oppses it would be wrong. So this leftist religon called Satanism uses the word Satan to show strong Opistion to right wing Christianty. I'd have to say their Leftist Extremists.

Thought I responded this already however: there are 2 varieties of Satanism. One is Levayan Satanism. These individuals do not suppose in an evil entity or deity. They suppose in self gratification. If you have been that variety of Satanist I could suppose you have been self founded... since thats the entire doctrine of Leveyan Satanism. However, for those who honestly worshipped an evil entity, you want your head tested... since any individual is aware of correct from improper. And to willingly wish evil and anguish and ache to others is simply impossible (or intellectual).

satanists call themselves this because tthe morals they believie in are opposite to that of God's so since satan is the oppsite of god, it's the best term, plus it lets the christians know what kind of beliefs they have, however they do not believe in satan nor worship him,

They just want to have a religion I guess, I will suggest them to be free, just free, why got a religion, if you are not christian or whatever, why do you want to belong to any religion,
Be free people!!!! without any religion, just collect knowledge, and we know that this world sucks if you want, and could be the most wonderful world if you want... so many points of views...
We live in democracy and it's my suggestion
