A linked object will be linked to its source file and will update each time the source changes.

An embedded object will NOT be linked to its source and will not change when the source is updated.

So if you paste the number "1" from a cell in workbook A into a cell in workbook B and you LINK it and then in workbook A you change the "1" to a "2", the linked object in workbook B will automatically change to "2".

Does this make any sense?

- a linked object is stored as an external file while the embedded object is stored inside the excel file (increasing the size of the excel file)
- a linked file, when updated, updates the source file while an embedded object does not (it is a separate copy by itself in excel)
