i do respect religions. i do believe that everybody has a right to have their own beliefs and even act on them. i have no problem if somebody wants to pray at work, needs a day off, because it's their religious holiday. i don't mind if people wanna spend their whole sunday in a church. all fine by me.

But, do i also need to respect the individual religious people, that use bibles and qurans as excuses for bashing groups of people. Do i also have to respect them if they condemn homosexual people based on their own religion?

little example:

these people deserve no respect.there is no excuse for those sorts of opinions. and they need to be treated without any form of respect. that's just my opinion.
anybody have a problem with that?

I think you should respect all opinions, regardless of whether you deem them correct or not. I think you should try to explain to people why you feel their opinions are incorrect. Back it up and let them know you find their arguments flawed and/or offensive. Many people are misinformed and not knowledgable about many areas (this includes myself).

I see your point, but the fundamentalists who bash other people and quote religion out of context are mistaken. The Bible clearly states that we should not judge other people because that is not our place -- that is God's place only. All of the world's major religions hold that we should respect and be tolerant of all people, not just those who believe what we believe. We should still respect others, but this does not mean we have to agree with their beliefs. We should respect them as human beings like ourselves, but not necessarily their beliefs if they are harmful to others.

It's too bad that some people are so intolerant and close minded. All you can do is keep to your own convictions and hope they'll realize they are just being angry and hateful. All people deserve respect, even if you don't agree with them at all.

I think everyone deserves respect for what they believe. What they do, however, is another story. Besides, if you didn't respect everybody, you're sinking to quite a low level.

You should respect those people who deserve to be respected as individuals, not for whatever group they side with.

I think it depends on the person like I used to live next to these people that told me if I didn't go to church and pray and stuff like that I would go to hell but other people don't try to force their religion on you like that.
