Why couldn't they answer any of my questions? Were they just bad at their jobs?

Ease up a bit. They're 18, maybe 19 years old. Were you not born into a religion?

Having explored the LDS religion for a while and once seen a missionary's flat (two youths 18 and 20) the flat was very untidy, they ate pop tarts all the time, and went out only 1 hour per day.

While this is only one pair of missionaries, there may well be others like these, who are kids who would rather be at college, playing sports and dating girls (or boys in the case of girl missionaries). Rather than endure 2 years of unpaid work or "service".

So I am not suprised the missionaries you met couldn't asnswer your questions.

OK, time to set some of this nonsense straight.

Sinthya, respect for all your points, but missionaries will have gone through the Temple, they have to as a requirement of serving a mission. And they are Elders. It says so on their badges.

They will know their scriptures. Missionaries spend two hours each day studying the scriptures, and will have had at least an hour a week of scripture study in church (as well as with their families) since they were young.

It depends what questions you asked them. Did you ask them the square root of minus one? The principal export crop of Belize? If you have questions ask me, or ask the missionaries to bring someone from the Ward to talk to you.

And if you really want to know, ask God...

Most of the people who answered you so far are giving BAD ADVICE! Possibly, these missionaries were ill-prepared,or just inexperienced! The answers ARE there! And they can give them to you if you give them a chance-of that I'm sure! BUT you need to do your part! Have you tried praying to GOD,our Heavenly Father,in the name of Jesus Christ,to help you find answers to your questions? If you haven't read the Book of Mormon yet,I urge you to get a copy from them AND read it for yourself(most,if not all these people who say the LDS are "deceivers" have NEVER read it ,nor really know ANYTHING about the church,or what it teaches,or why). IF you will read the Book of Mormon, and pray for GOD to reveal to you if it be true,HE WILL DO SO! HE DID IT FOR ME-and MILLIONS of others! And I think you will find many of your answers therein! (And ALWAYS remember in prayer,to ask all things, in the name of Jesus Christ.)By the way,the complete name of the church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints! It is the ONLY, true, church of christ on earth today, and the only one that ever will be! You CAN find any and all your answers there!

Truthfully, it has more to do with the fact that some of what you might have asked they don't know yet. Missionaries generally haven't gone through the temple ceremony and don't know some of the things they learn about when they do it. Ask for an elder, he should be prepared to answer them. If you don't get the answers you want or they don't want to answer them and dance around the subject that should be a BIG red flag.

I live about 10 miles from Palmyra, NY, the home of the Mormons... it's a subject of a great many local jokes. I especially like the part about the farmer/ founder of the CLDS finding the Ten Commandment tablets... but not letting anyone see them...

Because I'm so close to the CLDS "holy place", I get visits from these guys all the time... you can't halp but feel sorry for them. They really cannot handle a direct challenge to their beliefs. I respect what they are doing, but they definitely need to work on training their recruiters.

LDS missionaries are still people and they will probably be back with more mature LDS people so stay sharp, alert and pray that YOU will not also be deceived.

They haven't studied their scipture. They only repeat what they hear and don't know what it means. That goes for any denomination that can not answer questions about their own faith.
