What was their reason for not contacting you 4 five months? If it was a life or death situation, ask for back up medical records.(there is always a paper trail...) If they cannot produce docs, then they have LIED to you for a second time.
To "err is human to forgive is divine." Just because you forgive them, does not mean you have to remain their friend and continue to put up with the drama... or maybe you like drama!
But, you definitely hold the key to your own serenity (peace of mind). The final decision is yours to make, is this persons friendship worth mending? Are they an asset or liability in your life? GOOD LUCK!!!

It would really depend on the reason for everything. My dad left and he came back.It took a long time but eventually I forgave him because I dont want to go through life living in the past.See what the explaination is and learn to forgive and forget and just keeping on stepping with your life.

I agreed with the person who said that "forgiving doesn't mean forgetting". You can forgive the person but you shouldn't let your guard down again.

Forgiving them doesn't mean forgetting or letting them back into your life. I can forgive you for stealing from me but I won't trust you again and I certainly won't let you into my house again. See my point.

myself personally I wouldn't forgive him or her but that's me it would have to depend on the reason they gave for leaving in the first place.

no one can answer this question except you. this is a decision that needs to come from the heart. if someone else answers if for you and it turns out to be wrong, you'll blame them and not yourself. so turn your brain off and listen to your heart and you'll make the right choice.
