Convince them that if they truly care about you and would like you to have the time of your life, that they should not go with you. However, perhaps you could comprimise with them. Turn on your cell phone and tell your parents that they can check on you every half and hour. This could work if the reason that they want to go if because they are overprotective. Also, if they want to go just to have fun, let them remember that it is your night and perhaps you could comprimise by offering that if they let you go and not go themselves that you could do more chores and give more money to the family (get a job and agree that half of the paycheck will go to them if they are to agree to give you more privacy and privileges). Afterall, if you can handle a job very well, they could understand more that you are responsible enough to go places on your own.

Why don't you want your parents there? Jeez, I wish I could go back to being young. My parents would be with me everywhere I went if they wanted to. My father passed away and the memories I would have had of him being at my prom, my first date, all the school dances and anything else would be awesome. Children don't appreciate what they have until they grow up. Let them go. Dance with your father, watch your parents dance and most important take pictures. Lots and lots of pictures!!!

Sounds like arguing and whining cost you a dance and a party. Perhaps you should have tried to compromise rather than argue.
You may be able to rescue the situation by apologizing and asking if you can all go. Better than sitting at home.

They probably just want to make sure you can be trusted. Relax I am sure they won't be the only parents there. As for partying there will be plenty of time for that in the future, besides if you party alot now it won't be as much fun when you turn 21

Go and have fun. Were you planning on doing something you didn't want your parents to know about? More than likely, they won't be the only parents there.

at some point you have to shake off your parents. If they are afraid to let you go to a chaperoned event then they are seriously messed up in the head. I dunno what to do though, relax and talk to them, maybe they'll have to go to one of these things to see it's OK before they'll ever lighten up... or maybe there's no hope and they will never trust you... in the worst case, I'd say family counseling is available though churches and schools... make use of it. PuterPrsn is obviously one of these scared untrusting cynicals like your parents, outlaw organized religion and nutjobs like him and elvee13 would no longer exist in 50 years, but we don't have time for logical solutions.
