I hate myself, Im not huge on God either. things would of been better off if I hadn't been born. According to "god" my whole family is going to hell for divorce, pre-martial sex or several other things so even if I do die and by some miracle go to the so-called kingdom I won't be with the people I love. Im born and raised catholic, but according to all theother christians if I don't drop my catholic ways and accept jesus in my heart I'm destined with the rest of my family for hellfire for eternity. and even if I stay catholic my familys still gonna burn for eternity according to that belief. Oh, and you know Irans gonna bomb the crap out of us, we're all gonna die, go to hell for being "infidels" and hate everything more than we do on earth. How can God really be loving and merciful if he burns his kids for eternity bescause they screwed up a couple times or couldn't pick the right religion out of hundreds of them? I really just don't care about anything anymore. Anyone feel the same

You sound very depressed and I'm truly sorry. First of all, just put all religion aside for a minute and focus only on yourself, now and know that God does Love you. You are His precious child. Ever seen the picture of the "footprints in the sand"..if you are having a hard time, give yourself permission to just let God carry you for now. He made you for a very special purpose and He will never give up on you so don't give up on Him. Sometimes circumstances cause depression but other times it can be due to a medical imbalance. Go to a good Doctor and get a check up and see if there is an underlying cause for your depression. Until then, stay out of the past and the future and what happened back when and what may happen in the future. Live in the present moment and things will shrink down to manageable size. Give yourself a break and don't be so damn hard on yourself. When you focus on the negative, it consumes you and takes away your ability to see the good and positive in your life. Try to see and appreciate some of the beauty and good in things and people around you...and it is there, you just need to open your eyes and look for it. I'm stepping out on a limb a bit here but I would say....no one person knows the state of another's soul when they die except God and I believe God is all loving and merciful and your family may all receive mercy and forgiveness and be there to share heaven with you. But thats not today so just stay in today. I will keep you in my prayers. I hope to meet you in Heaven one day. PS...I'm Catholic too and I am especially asking Our Blessed Mother to wrap her loving arms around you and lead you with love and grace to her son, Jesus Christ. I have felt the way you do now in the past and believe me, as they say in AA.....This too...shall pass. God Bless You.

Yeah, I do feel the same. Or I did when I still had beliefs that hell exists and that there is a God who has need for judgment and revenge. While I still believe in God I have left the rest, for they do not serve me.

A friend loaned me a book about a year ago which set me upon a spiritual journey, which I hope and feel will be ongoing for the remainder of my lifetime. The things that I have been reading, what most people would call "new-age" spirituality, not based on any organized religion, have liberated me to live a love-based life filled with joy and has removed my fear of death as well.

See sources below if you would like some inspiring reading material.

Let it go young one. As you age you realize that the world is a cruel place and that many religions use scare tactics to make you worship their God. But in the end we are all speaking with the same God. Now, I am not telling you to forgo religion altogether. Just try to live a good life and everything will work out all right. Besides, do you think that divorced people will be sitting side by side with somebody like Adolf Hitler? I don't think so. God is a lot more forgiving than that. Relax.

You know I was told once that I could completely decide who God is, and what God is like on my own. I think you should take a break from what others have told you and reinvent your God. I believe God is love. And kindness, and forgiveness.
You were put here for a purpose. I do not believe you were born to suffer. I think pain is necessary in life, but misery is optional. You are obviously intelligent and can write well, two things many people do not have.
Don't accept other peoples opinions about God. They are no closer to God than you are. Decide to get rid of all those punishment based philosophies, they are fiction anyway. Thank you for a thought provoking question, I wish you freedom and joy.

First thing is that you and your family are not damned yet. Second thing is that hell fire will not continue burning forever.

The idea of hell fire burning forever is another fear tactic to keep people in the church. It was brought into christianity by the Catholic church, but is not supported by the Bible. The truth is that those who do get condemned to hell will burn until they become ashes, but this will last forever. You are right to question God's love and mercy with this since you believe this lie. Because of his mercy, the people and Satan will burn to ashes. God does not force us to love him, so if we do not love him now, he will burn us in hell because we would be miserable in the kingdom.

There is still time to change, to turn to God and the truth. I agree that it would be nice to have the whole family in Heaven, but it will still be wonderful with or without them. Even though you may have sinned, confess to those whom you may have hurt and confess directly to God. The priest can not give you forgiveness, and pennance can not pay for forgiveness. (It is another lie by the Catholic church.) Repent. This means don't do that sin any more. Jesus is ready and willing to forgive you, but he is waiting for you to ask. (Forgiveness is not automatic, you have to ask for it.)

Don't worry about a church at this point, a church can not get you into Heaven, but being united to the Catholic church can get you into hell. (It isn't the people that make it bad, it is the whole system and the leadership that make it bad.) Having the right church is not as important as knowing and understing the right God. This whole matter seems to bother you, but you seem to lean toward christianity so focus on studying The Bible. The truth is there and God will bless your efforts the same as he blessed Martin Luther.

One more thing, get help to relieve your stress in a healthy way. Prayer has been shown to be the best single stress reducing technique. (It also offers health benefits.) Pray directly to God; the saints are still dead and in their graves. (This is another lie by the Catholic church; Jesus is our only mediator.) Begin an exercise program to help you handle stress better. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and other drugs because these will only make your stress worse in the long run.

May God bless you.

I don't think roman catholics burn for all eternity. There are just as many problems with Protestantism as with blind Catholocism.

Really, I guess you have to seek the Lord on this, a fast and pray matter between you and Him. Then you know what being a believer is, believing that He cares for you that much, to see that you're in a group of good faith. Do not exclude the possibility that He will tell you to stay where you are, but to grow spiritually.

Study the scriptures. They're great, confess that you do not understand them yet, but that God, in his forgiveness, will help you to read them better, and will bring to mind those events and doctrine matters as you need them in your daily life.

God has shown us the judgements, we have to believe them enough to obey. All people will be judged according to their words and deeds, especially when we have heard the truth from Him.

It isn't God who sentences people to eternal damnation, it's other people who deceive them. We damn ourselves because we either allow people to deceive us or completely disregard the whole matter and think it doesn't matter.

I thought the same thing. Why would God send his kids to hell for making poor choices?? The answer is he doesn't. Hell doesn't exist. I recently read a book called "What God Wants" by Neale Donald Walsch. In it he asks questions that most people are afraid to ask, then he answers them with the most logical way he can. What is most important about this book is that it's okay to question where your path is leading you. Everybody has a path. Nobody is traveling the same path. But that doesn't mean we're going to be punished for it. Anything you need you already have inside of you. All you have to do is bring it forth from deep inside you.

First of all, don't hate yourself. You are a unique individual with special talents and abilities that you may or may not discover.
But they are there. There is no one else just like you.
As for religion, I am an agnostic who does not believe in the literal translation of the Bible (because each time it was copied by scribes, some things were left out or changed), but I believe in the VALUES of the Bible, and by helping other people and trying to show kindness and compassion, I feel like my life has a purpose and some kind of worth.
I truly hope this helps.

I think at one time or another all of us feel that way on some level. Don't get all tied around the here after and what is and isn't going to happen with God. Try focusing on things that you have some control over. What will you eat for breakfast, what will you wear. Believe me so many people are here to tell you how to live your life, just live it to be happy, If you are going to get crushed by a satellite that has lost it's fuel, don't worry it will go quick.

I don't think you should hate yourself...but you do sound pretty depressed. i wish i knew you better so i could cheer you up. But I know a religion that doesn't think your whole family is going to go to hell for a divorce.
And about God burning his kids...um..i'll have to disagree with you on that. God really does love every one of us and he gave us the option to choose how we live our life. He's not going to force us to be good so that we can go live with him again, he lets you do choose. He doesn't want for his children to be burned...I think you should go to mormon.org and find out more about that religion...but if you're not interested it's ok. just dont' hate life. there are other options to feeling better about life. those things will pass and you'll learn from them...

i hope that helped...somewhat...
