Ways to spank your child?

When i was a child my Father use to whip me with the same short piece of water hose that he used to whip the dog with, Is this odd?

Um NO, Are you a better person now? Have you ever been in trouble with the law? I got whipped with not only the water hose, but a nice big tobacco stick, if by chance it broke into, a broom handle or shovel handle worked for him. Man I hated those beatings. I was about 12 then. When I talked back or rolled my eyes at my dad, and I was caught, oooooohhhhh I was in for it.He broke 3 of my ribs, my jaw, and knocked out 4 front teeth. Needless to say, I respected my Dad all the way up until he died. I sure do miss him now. I never got into trouble in school( I knew the consiquences if I did)And recently graduated from Police Academy, he never made it too see that I made something out of myself.

My grandmother threatened me with a razor strap. You know one of the old straps of leather that barbers used to sharpen the straight razors with. My grandfather always made me cut my own switch from the peach tree in our yard and the spanking was twice as bad if we didn't get a good switch the first time out or took to long picking one. My mom used a belt or wooden paddle. I won't spank my kids with anything other then my hand. As for whether a hose is weird or not, maybe excessive but not weird. I've heard of worse things to use and some people use whatever is handy.

My grandmother used to make me get a switch off a tree or bush and spank me with it. I thought I was being smart by picking the little ones...little did I know that those sting the worse. I deserved it though. I was a smart *** growing up.

Of course, my grandmother came from a different time. That's just how they did things back then. There was no "time out". I'm not saying spanking is right or wrong, I'm just saying things are just different now. I don't spank my child.

Yes this is abuse. You should never spank your child. I understand parents do but children should be discipline according to their age. If you're child is out of control now...well it is not the child but your parenting skills. And there are plenty of places they can help. Call a Parent hotline, called Social Services and find out about parenting. You should never use spanking as a way to correct a behavior. Spanking is a punishment that will only stop the behavior for a period of time. They will do it again.

Try positive and and negative enforcement. Incentives, rewards, feedback, consequences...etc

Yes this is odd. My father used a leather belt but I will not use one. I spank my children with my hand.

It's now considered child abuse, so don't follow your father's example. Back in the day though, we were sent out to get a switch ourselves to be whipped by. If it wasn't big enough or flexible enough and mom or dad had to go get it themselves, the whipping was twice as bad.

No, it was not odd. BUT your father was seriously misguided in the way he chose to discipline the dog and the way he chose to treat you. I am sorry you were treated so shabbily and I hope you have been able to get on with having a happy life.

Very.. In Fact... It is only legal to hit your child if its with your HAND and on the butt... If you hit ur child anywhere else it is illegal
