So do the "not yet born" have nothing in store for them if they should be born? What else should we do with those who would risk the "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" of the rest of us? We have a right to be free to try those things, don't we? I surely don't want someone infringing upon those rights. Do you? Prison isn't the only "solution" to crime. Sometimes the death penalty can be a deterrent.....but only *if* it's used. How the hell can someone be on Death Row for 15-20 years and waste our tax dollars so? If we utilize our court system to determine someone's guilt, isn't it just as wrong to put an "innocent" person in jail for a long time as it seems it is (to you) to execute them? We're still "playing God" by determining another human being's fate for the length of the sentence.
And why is it some don't mind killing fetuses (who have wronged NO ONE) but want criminals (who have wronged SOMEONE) kept alive? That's a$$-backwards, isn't it?
>>Do only those not yet breathing have the right to live?<<
How would you or any of us be here if the answer to that were "yes"?

The Bible is used in instances where we need assurance on things to answer why? God doesn't like war, but on the other hand he has tolerated in on numerous occasions. When you are God , "He giveth life and he can taketh away." George Bush is just a messenger of God, given political and constitutional law powers in order to run a our country. Terrorism is a true threat and a lot of people just hasn't seen the light. President Bush is just carrying the light so to speak. In war you will have death and Saddam Huessein wasn't a very kind man. He senselessly killed a lot of people. If not President Bush it wouldn't been someone else. His stance on abortion different scenario. It is a living human being. During a certain part of the Gestation period Congress and the house of representatives determined that the fetus has a right to survive by law. Unless the fetus is causing the eventual death of the mother the baby will survive. Abortions are running amuck. Teenagers getting pregnant , when they shouldn't be. That's where it all starts. President Bush does care about the troops and he loves children. I have to give him that much. Case rests

I believe the bible gives governments the right to protect and defend. The bible says that the authorities are not given the sword in vain. Just as a father would protect his household from an intruder, a godly government would protect its occupants. As to the position of abortion, life is sacred. We are to protect the innocent, especially when they are our own children! The Canaanites did sacrifice their children to the god Molech, which was an abomination to God. We see in the bible that God detested these acts and brought curses upon these people. Of course, God loves people and wishes that none should be killed but he has given us free will to choose. We will all be judged according to the decisions we personally make. Unfortunately, when a sinful act of murder, such as abortion, is allowed in a nation, God must punish that nation which will probably result in more bloodshed. It is my personal experience that most women I know of that had abortion did it for personal convenience reasons and not because it was a life or death situation.

I do see a connection in that many of the victims of the war in Iraq have been children and innocent civilians rather than terrorists. I am not religious but I think a pre-emptive war is morally wrong, war should only be a recourse of last resort. There were other ways to approach the terrorism issue if that in fact is why we went to war with Iraq. As for abortion, I think it is far more moral to try to help people prevent unwanted pregnancies (via teaching comprehensive sex ed while advocating abstinence and providing access to birth control) and to help the many unwanted, underpriviledged children already in the world than to encourage the government to interfere in a person's right to control their own body and make their own moral/spiritual decisions. I agree with you that I think we should focus on the quality of life for the people who are born. In my opinion we should focus more on providing a decent standard of living and education for the children that are already in the world.

Laying down like doormats and allowing tyrants to have free reign would be just about as sinful as killing babies. War isn't pretty, but if our being in Iraq makes things better for Iraqis in the long run then all you liberals should be all for it. As for capital punishment, I'm not an advocate of it myself, but I can certainly understand why many perfectly moral and religious people would be..."an eye for an eye", remember? Helpless, unborn babies never hurt anyone (and, no, many unfortunate Iraqis never did either, but there's a price to pay for freedom unfortunately, as there has been throughout history). Stop trying to blur the lines of distinction.

I wonder if Bush is against abortion for non American women, say Iraqi or Iranian woman? After all, if we are so gung-ho to kill our enemies abroad why not stop terrorism at its source and fund abortions in all Muslim countries. Uh Oh, don’t pass this idea on to Karl Rove or it may become our new foreign policy, but then again knowing the stupidity of GW he might just start bombing Americans to prove he is pro-life!

It's obvious you haven't really read some of the word of God (I use the term very very loosely),to debate against President Bush and abortion.Jesus wage war against pharisees and scribes with word of God and Jesus went down to Hell to fight Satan and get the keys from him. President Bush is keeping our people safe from infidels who wage war against God's chosen people. In the U.S. Their are other options for those who don't want a baby such as adoption. President Bush is doing the right thing.

If you read the Bible in its entirety, you'll find that it often justifies war against "the enemy."
Don't place so much emphasis on the words of Jesus. For example, he said "render unto Caesar's what is Caesar's," implying that any tax which the government chooses to impose is morally acceptable. Do you believe this?

That's the great thing about Christianity, the bible says whatever they want it to at the time. Remember? It's a living text. Only things alive can lie.
