I believe eastern philosophies greatly impacted what we now understand as western religious thought. Prior to Jesus, it was eye for and eye, and sins were handled very crypticly.

Jesus brought fourth a new way of thinking that I believe he picked up from the eastern religions. Very karma oriented and very do unto others. Love all neighbors. If a man hits you, give him your other cheek....

Thoughts like that were not typical of western religion...but it was and is the root of eastern religion

I don't think philosophies advanced Western religious thought. They are two different fields. But see this:

That is probably the most influential field for religion.

There shouldn't be "religious" thought. There is though, but "philosophy" has no real place in the Bible.

Men's philosophies and ideas can ruin your faith. It's in the Bible, Colossians 2:8,. "Don't let others spoil your faith and joy with their philosophies, their wrong and shallow answers built on men's thoughts and ideas, instead of on what Christ has said."
