Dogs bark for many reasons. Sometimes we don't all ways know , or see or hear what they are barking at. Just because a dog barks at you does not mean that it is going to bite you. There are sings that a dogs shows before they bite.1. Growling,2. bearing teeth, and 3. they may try and ling at you. You need to figure out why the dog was barking. dogs also bark as a form of greeting and to get your attion. Yes a dog will sense if you are afraid, and that might make them a little nervous of you also. Good luck

Watch out for the back of the dog. If his hair is raised up, he is very mad. Sometimes when the hair is raised up, it can be clear to the tail. Let him be. Try another time to make friends, but you must make friends around his family. Then the dog will know you are ok. Then when he finds out you are ok to be in the house, he won't see you as a threat. Right now he may not be to sure if you are friend or enemy. Hope this helps! We have 2 boxers and they are very loving. But they sure do protect me when all the men are gone. They think I need protecting! Good luck!!

Well, I would say it is not a friendly gesture if he are barking at you, however they normally growl before biting. If you are going to be around the dog, I would definitely attempt to make friends in any way possible...bring him treats, pet him a lot when your bf is with you and any other way to get him to think you are part of the "pack".

Dog knows you are afraid of him so he is acting like the pack leader. Is IT because he part pit, if it is that is all the more reason to show him you are strong. Pits are almost always alpha dogs and need to be shown you are more alpha than he is. I'm handicapped and in a wheel chair and mine knows who's boss.
