Alright, you got me started. My husband is an Army recruiter. What most of you people do not understand is the ridicule and slander these men have to put up with from their commanding officers. The recruiters who are active duty do not get paid one cent more if you join, however, civilian recruiters do. My husband is basically forced to work between 12-14 hours a day Monday through Friday and usually about 6 hours on Saturdays...he's even had to work on Sundays. Yes, some recruiters lie, tell half-truths, or sugar coat things, I guess my husband is not one of them, just ask the people he's put in. Recruiters get yelled at, thrown out of places, cursed at, and hung up on every single day. Also, I know that some minorities say "I ain't serving in the white man's army" what is that? Any way. Recruiters have an extremely tough and stressful job, why don't you actually at least treat them as people.

Valerie F deserves a medal for her great answer. My Marine recruiter was extremely honest and even tried to talk me out of being a grunt since it is physically taxing (I still went). I an going into the Army now and my recruiter practically lives at the station. No amount of money is worth the hassle and insane hours they put in, but we wouldn't have the finest military in the world without them. My recruiter is waking at 3:00AM for the second time this week to take me to the MEPS for processing. He gets off work around 9 or 10 each night.

I have no problem with army recruiters my wrestling coach used to be one. He always reached his quota way before the deadline so he also had time to devote to his church and Family. But i have to admire army recruiters becuase they have to deal with the liberal sentiment of todays youth (which i am a part of minus the liberal sentiment). And its not like they are making people sign the paper, its a volunteer army. That is why i don't sympathize with Cincy Sheehan. Now if her son was drafted, it might be a different story but since the draft is going on right now...

My Navy recruiter lied his a#% off to get me in...I still had a wonderful experience (and met my husband) in the Navy. I just wish I hadn't been lied to. I hope that Army recruiters are more honest!

Good for you WuttWutt...I'm sure I just got the "bad apple" of recruiters. It was just very disappointing that most of what he told me was a blatant lie!

well, they told me that in two years I would outrank my brother, who is in the navy. It's been three and a half years, and I don't even hold a rank as high as he.

The problem is, if recruiters told the absolute truth about the army, no one would ever join the army. It's a simple fact. Well, I guess you would still get some guys, but not nearly enough.

Don't believe everything.....you really want to know ask someone who is in the army, not a recruiter.

Hard work, long hours, no time for family, ALWAYS working, no credit for a good job.

The only highlight for me was when my kids came back from training and swung by my house to thank me. That happened quite frequently. One of my kids came to Germany, looked me up, invited me and the wife to dinner, and even asked me to pin his SGT stripes on him.

Do recruiters lie? A lot of them do. Do they sugar coat, misinform? A lot of them do.

I didn't. I wasn't the best recruiter (didn't put a lot of kids in), but almost ALL my kids came to visit when they got back.
