monotheistic or polytheistic? old or new? i just want a general idea of what a lay person knows about Hinduism.

I know that it is primarily practiced in India. Also it is polytheistic, there are multiple gods, Shiva, Vishnu, and Ganesha are the three main ones I think. There are about 750 Million practitioners world wide. It also involves burning lots of incense. Also I think reincarnation is a featured tenet of this religion. I have never studied it in any organized way, nor do I personally know any Hindus. I have picked up the little bit that I know through pop media and books that I have read.

To me, Hinduism is monotheistic, as all paths lead to one ultimate God. The number of paths are unlimited, however.

It's polytheistic
It's a very old religion
They beleive in reincarnation
The cow is very sacred to them; can't eat beef
They use the caste system
Started in present day Pakistan, but is now most prevalent in India
That's about all I know
