From a Christian perspective, what does someone have to do to go to heaven. Is there a difference between Christian and Catholic doctrine to follow to get to heaven?

All you have to do is "believe" and ask for forgiveness. That's all I've been told and your sins are forgiven!!!

The problem is that the term "christian perspective" alludes to dozens off different and often contradicting perspectives that could all be under the umbrella of "christian". The basic principles seem to be that one must confess that they are a sinner in need of a savior, and believe that Jesus' death on the cross is enough to cover for their shortcoming. However some bible verses seem to question the sufficiency of those two elements (confessing and believing), such as "not all who say Lord, Lord shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father only". The bottom line is no one knows for sure, and when the time comes that the truth is made known, it will be too late to change your mind/perspective.

The Catholic perspective is the same story. Every Catholic will have their own belief on this eternal issue. You cant categorize all their beliefs into one.

Catholicism is one sect of Christianity, so there shouldn't really be a difference in the doctrine. Maybe except for the part about eating meat products on Fridays...
I'm a Catholic, and there are alot of things that are done to show that you are a devout Catholic (confession, 7 sacraments, catechism classes, first communion, etc.) but that doesn't mean you are a good person. A person could take part in the Eucharist on Sunday, and on Monday, cheat on their spouse, or kill their next door neighbor.
For Christians and non-Christians - here's how you can get into heaven...just treat others the way you want to be treated. That's it! Be a good person overall, and you'll be fine.

The only thing you have to do is accept Jesus Christ as your personal LORD and Savior. He paid the price for your sins and mine. Catholics are Christians. Even if they have differing doctrine. Jesus told us that He is the way, the truth and the life. That the only way to the Father is through Him. Trust in the Word of the LORD.

Pray and ask God for forgiveness of your sins. Pray and believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior (sincerely). Live the life that God will want you to live, pure and a path of righteousness. We all make mistakes but as long as you fix your eyes upon Jesus, you should be all right. The Bible says that that's the only way we can go to heaven. Every other way is only deception.

catholicism IS a christian denomination, so there is no difference there. all christian denominations i'm familiar with rely on the idea that accepting christ as the son of G*d who allowed himself to be killed to attone for the sins of humanity is THE path to heaven. kind of an exclusive club that much of the world just isn't qualified to join.

buncha' malarky, if you ask me. good people are not punished in the afterlife, and bad people don't get a pass if they say some hocus pocus on their death bed.

just except jesus christ as your lord and savior. thats all there is to it. you cant earn your way. its a free gift, you only have to accept it. just admit your a sinner, and say you believe jesus died on the cross for your sins and that you need him. and if you really mean it, jesus will save you and come into your heart and life to live forever.
some roman catholics pray to mother mary, that is stupid, she cant answer your prayers, only god can. your not sappose to pray to anyone but god they should know that if they read the bible. but they usually make up their own stuff. i know that cause i was forced to go to a catholic school when i was in 5th grade and i hated it, i never would pray to the so called saints they pray to, thats a big no no.

The bible says to believe that Jesus is the son of God , that he died for your sins and ask him to come into your heart and save you. You should be sorry for your sins and pray the sinners prayer and mean it with all your heart. God loves you and wants you as his child.

accept christ into your heart and live for him. After that, strive to live for him everyday of your life. God loves you. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son..." *ha take that!* Jesus died on the cross for you. I believe Catholicism is very structured and almost ritualistic.
