Say "I am sorry 'Joe', I need this time to relax and read to give my mind a break from my work, to handle my stress well, to be at my peak productivity." Then pick your book back up and commence reading. If need be take some large obvious ear protectors ( like people use at the firing range) and wear them as you read.
You may also wish to directly address the issue of his criticising others to you. Tell him you prefer not to hear the criticisms of others.

If your getting annoyed by the subject then try to change the subject before he starts....lol...or if your a straight up kind of person...then maybe in a polite way you can tell him that you would rather talk about something else for a change....idk.

Tell this person that talking about them to others doesn't help. If they have issues, your coworker needs to go to his daughter-in-law and talk it out with her. I guarantee his criticism will be more realistic, and it 's the only way to solve the relationship problem.

Ask to meet the daughter in law so you can see in person just how slutty she really is.

Just tell him to shut up. Then leave the room and don't make eye contact with him for the next few days. It works every time.

Ask him why he spends so much time talking about his daughter in law and that you want to make sure that there aren't sick and hidden desires he's fighting then he'll shut up about it.

Tell him it's annoying, and that he shouldn't be talking about his daughter-in-laws activities. Or tell him to go talk to someone who cares.
Daughter in law? His sons wife??? Right? Why's he talking about her anyway?

Tell him it's TMI (Too Much Information) and you want him to switch channels... or really shake him up and imply that as much as he talks about her he must have interest in her.
