I ran away from home many years ago. 1980. I took a Grayhound bus to Hollywood, California with only seven dollars in my pocket. One day I was trespassing on the Burbank Studio lot and accidently walked onto the Duke of Hazzard set. A motorcycle security guard who warned me days prior not to come back was following me. I was scared and knew I was going to be arrested as he promised. Just ahead of me walking in my direction was (Bo Duke) John Schneider sipping on a cup of coffee. He and the guard reached me at the same time. John told the guard I was okay and was with him and was excorted by John back to the set. He introduced me Catherine Bach (Daisy), Tom Wopat (Luke), Crazzzzzzy Cotter, Uncle Jessy and the rest of the actors. I was really feeling lonely that day because I left me family in New Orleans and didn't have a friend or anyone to talk to. A kid I met on Hollywood Boulevard who was also a runaway told me how to sneak on the lot, so I did, just to have something to do and by chance meet someone famous. It had been so very long since I had laughed so much in my life. When I said goodbye, ohn told me if I ever wanted to come back to watch them ust ask for him at the gate. For an entire year, that is exactally what I did. And when John saw me each time, nomatter how far he was away, when I appeared on the set, he held up his arms and kept them that way as he walked half way across the room most of the time, with a smile that sent chills up my spine, to lift me off the ground and give me a bear hug. Because of John Schneider, I started volunteering for Hollywood Community Hospital, and I was one of the first three volunteers who help get a donated home on Beachwood Drive ready for the Grand Opening of a new Shelter for runaways. It is now called Options House. For twenty-plus years it's been helping teens in crisis. Going to the studio, I met alot of actors and watched a lot of shows being filmed. Shows like Falcon Crest , The Love Boat, anf Fantasy Island. One day while leaving the Dukes set on my way off the lot I recognized actor Sidney Portier. I introduced myself to him and he invited me to watch a movie he was directing. "Stir Crazy". Mr Poitier introduced me to Mr. Richard Pryor and Mr. Gene Wilder and I watched them film til their day ended. I met Greg Evigan and watch him filming B>J and the Bear and met actor Jack Klugman on the Quincy set went I went to Universal Studios. But nomatter which actor I met, or whos show I was watching, nothing compared to laughing at Roscoe P. Coltrane chasing the Duke Boys and getting bear hugs from John Schneider. It's been 26 years. I would love to meet John Schneider again.
