I would like to think they were open minded. The village raised the children in groups not single. Man and woman chose their lover on their momentary emotions and needs not restricted to just one forever. I really don't know. I asked when marriage came into play and some people told me when Adam and Eve were made. I never felt satisfied with the answers I got

Well....bibilically sex is what binds you as man and wife... at least back in the day. So how many wives (or husbands if you so prefer) do you have hummmm.......

"Marriage is an act of the will, not a rite or ritual. What makes you married is the act of your will, and the act of the will of your mate, that says to each other, I allow you to come into my life and become one flesh with me. It is the same as when you ask Christ to come into your life and become one flesh with you, in salvation. It does not matter who performs the rite, what matters are the wills of the two participants! It is an act of the will, not a ceremony. A ceremony is usually a part of the process, but it does not complete the action! A couple who is married by a judge is no less married than a couple who was married in a pastor or priest. God is the one who created marriage (Genesis 2:18-25). What matters is your heart before God, not the wedding ceremony itself."

Who said Adam and Eve weren't married?

Genesis 2:24 leave his father and mother, cleave unto his WIFE, and the two shall become one. This was the standard set after Adam and Eve, obviously, since neither had "parents."

From the beginning in the word of God, Adam said:

"This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man."

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Marriage cermonies are as old a culture itself. Humans are envious by nature so they've always wanted to have someway to say "That's mine!" especailly mate wise. It varies alot place to place, but the idea of the to people remaining together throught life isn't a Christian idea, its an idea of nature.
