While I can't speak for everyone I can answer from my own point of view.
It's not that I don't want Mexicans or other nationals in this country. I don't have a problem with immigration. I have a problem with illegal immigration.
Yes, 200 years ago there were no immigration rules.
There was also no medicine, electricity or running water.
Especially when we are concerned about terrorism our national security becomes very important. The problem is striking the right balance between security and freedom.
Without immigration this country, like any other, would stagnate and die. I feel that the biggest problem is the 14th Amendment.
When it was signed it was mas meant to apply solely to those in the States at the time and was created to finally give equal rights to the freed slaves and their children. The true disgrace is the fact that today the 14th is used to immediately grant citizenship on the children of all the illegals here. This then means that the kids and their parents, hell their whole families, are afforded all manners of welfare support. The rub is that because these people are illegals (NOT UNDOCUMENTED) they don't pay into the state or federal tax pools which pays for these programs.
Who ends up paying for them? You and I.
There are many, many reasons to stop illegal immigration but bigotry and hatred are not one of them.

???????? destroy? Umm those country's that you are talking about are now enjoying the freedom's you take for granite everyday. You have no clue what it means to not have freedom cause you've abused it your whole life. Do you vote? If not then you have no right to say anything cause you didn't take your part. If you do then bravo and disregard the last statement. You don't seen to understand, most countries in this world you can't voice your opinion, you can't vote, you have to listen to the government or die. Do you get it yet. This is freedom we are talking about people, Our freedom. As far as the Mexicans are concerned,,,,,,,, 8+ million are in our country illegally. I sure wish I could decide what laws I can obey and what laws I can just blow off and not have anything happen to me. Tell you what why don't you let all the illegal immigrants live in your house and at your expense, not mine.

We dont want people who break the law to come here. We have laws against that, so do all other countries. If not, there would be no need for a PASSPORT or VISAS. In no other country can the numbers of people come, take up residence (like squatters) and get public assistance, medical, etc. If you want to go thru the proper channels, come on over. .Some of these people are coming here with TB, childhood diseases that we thought were erradicated, etc.

Two unrelated, mutually exclusive topics. The comparison is not able to be made logically. Irrationally, emotionally , yes.
On the topic of Mexicans, etc. Give me all the non-white, college educated, self supporting, hard working forgeiners who can get here by LEGAL means. People who could be a valuable addition to society. We could send an equal amount of our over indulged, lazy, selfish people back to their countries. I might be the only white guy in a neighborhood of Asians, but I am sure I would respect them more!

The problem is when people come here illegally. They need to crack down on that and send them back to their own countries. I also think they should be fined heavily, and given a jail term for their illegal entry into the states. America was built on immigrants. None of us are original Americans except the Native Americans, what we used to call Indians.

How are those two issues even remotely related?
Suppose we were totally wrong and without any justification to invade Iraq, that still wouldn't make it OK for illegal immigrants from a totally different country to steal our services such as education thereby degrading the quality of education for our own children. We owe the illegal immigrants nothing at all. To the contrary, we have been subsidizing their benefits all this time. What have they given me or my children in return that begins to measure up to the cost they have caused to our childrens educations?

It isn't that we fear other people, it is more that we are looking for a scape goat to blame on for the mid-term elections, like in the past it is a smoke screen has been set. The average American does not want to rid any people for some bias reason they just are being asked the question and the extremes of both sides are heard. Whatever for votes

My Dear, it is not that we don't want them here. We don't want them here illegally. We have an aversion to paying taxes so an illegal immigrant can come here and benefit from the work we've done without having earned the right to do so. There are people here in our own country who haven't enough food and shelter, but we are obliged to spend millions on Illegals and let our own needy slip thru the cracks. Furthermore, we do not illegally immigrate to other countries and expect them to give us freebies. War is NOT illegal immigration.

We aren't destroying anything. Our soldiers are fighting terrorism and keeping this country safe.
We just don't want illegals trying to take over our country and make it a copy of their own poorly run countries.
