Over the past several days, I have answered and read the answers of very disturbed individuals who obviously have little or no education on the questions they ask especially when dealing with or about the Catholic Church and its faith. I've always felt that if you are serious about learning, you ask and answer responsible questions with quality and substance. Instead the questions openly challenge and insult the faith and obviously originates from often disturbed minds...minds that already have thiers made up, as opposed to actually learning something. So why is it that people act this way, instead of showing that they realy want to learn.

Because first alot of people are not really asking questions but merely trying to be silly or ask a question to bait alot of people for certain types of answers.

next you have the largest majority of people who answer questions that are very obviously non christian if not even non religious. Add to that the part of those that are of some of the christian faiths that hold catholics right up there with the anti christ, you can see where most of them come from.

having be on questions and answer boards for over 7 years now ( various boards) and even a paid expert on one board several years ago. The answers here at this time are actuallly fairly nice compaired to those on many boards

I have tried to answer this question before. I believe it stems from other peoples upbringing. For example, you were taught that the sky was blue, and if I was taught that the sky was red, we would constantly argue about it. Each of us trying to convince the other was wrong, knowing full well what WE were told was true. This is because we trusted the person who told us.

The people that don't believe that Catholics aren't Christian were taught that at a very early age. And many people are still being taught that in many of today's modern churches. It's the same thing when people say that the Pope is the anti-christ. Because they trust the person who told them and believed them, so they accept it as truth. Here's the fallibility in their belief.

Another example is, most Protestants believe in "Sola Scriptura" and don't believe in scriptural traditions being passed down. But isn't this a tradition that has been passed down in their belief, that the Pope is the anti-christ? And isn't this a tradition that has been passed down, that Catholics worship idols and aren't Christian.

I believe in my Catholic faith and I respect others beliefs as well, I know that they believe in Christ just as I do. In the end we are all Christian, but, when it comes to who they say has the final authority in interpreting Scripture, people will say that their church is the true authority. What I say is this, read your Bible more closely. It tells that there are four marks of the true church.

1. The Church Is One (Rom. 12:5, 1 Cor. 10:17, 12:13)

2. The Church Is Holy (Eph. 5:25–27, Rev. 19:7–8)

3. The Church Is Catholic (Matt. 28:19–20, Rev. 5:9–10) (Catholic means universal in the original Greek translation)

4. The Church Is Apostolic (Eph. 2:19–20)

The truth. People are disappointed with the Church. The most vocal groups of the Catholic Church instead of giving faith or spiritual guidance, spend time criticizing and judging people (something only God should do).

They judge, divorcees, people that have sex with condoms (even if they don't want diseases or don't want more kids. Not everyone have the means to raise 19 kids), people that have sex out of the wedlock, single parents, adulterers, homosexuals. They are judging people that just want to be happy.

They treat women as if they were less than man. They treat other cultures as "savages", they protest over a movie when kids are dying in Sudan.

And then the raping of the boys scandal. And please don't come saying that it was less than 1% of 10%. One kid raped is one too many. Of course evil people are everywhere, including in the parish, but what was unacceptable was the fact that the Church knew about it and did nothing, because moving a priest to another parish is NOTHING compared to what should be morally done.

To put it in a short way: The Church disappointed me, and looks very hypocrite

Bishop, no disrespect but the Catholic church hasn't been known to be forthcoming with information that they deem as a threat. Some of this information has been uncovered to the dismay of the church and people have lost trust in Catholicism. The Catholic church didn't even hold mass in English until recent years. The only rational reason people could think of why is because the church didn't want people to have an individual relationship with God. And because of the recent rash of current and past pedophilia among priests, and the Catholic churches decision to try to cover up these problems and reassign these priests to other parishes, the church has destroyed the last bastion of moral identity in this nation.

I understand a lot more than I used to. I had a very good friend who was Catholic. She is deceased, and awaiting her rewards now. We used to discuss our different beliefs. Amicably, of course. We never argued and respected our differences. I was enlightened as to how the Catholics worship. And I do respect the religion. I was brought up a Lutheran, but as now do not attend any church. I am still a Christian, because I believe that Christianity comes from the heart. And I do love our Savior with all my heart. I am amazed that many on here think that Christianity and Catholics are two different religions. Hey! everyone! Catholics are Christian!! That was meant for all those who will read this answer. I think the attitude of people for the Catholics, of those who are negative, are due to not understanding/ or what they have been told. You can be sure that I will never make a negative remark toward the Catholics. Or any belief for that matter. In my answers, I do use scripture to point out misunderstandings, but I try not to abuse any religion......Peace be with you.

HA HA HA, good one. Who are you really? Mainworry? Who is behind that frilly white nightgown pictured in your avatar? Certainly not a priest? Who we all know to be the paradigm of open-mindedness and NOT of men whose “minds that already have thiers(sic) made up, as opposed to actually learning something“ No way could you possible be someone who has “read the answers of very disturbed individuals who obviously have little or no education on the questions they ask” or else you would have seen something in them which would have caused a bell to go off, a light to shine or something. Where there is smoke there is fire. Is this really Jim_Darwin? For we know that real priests couldn’t possibly be, as you said “serious about learning” or else they would have left that pagan, idolatrous man made religion long, long ago.

All I do is watch the news and read history. Why does the vactican have enough gold and such to feed a 3rd world country for a year? Why does the pope live in splendor? Why did the catholic church condone slavery? Why did it conduct the inquisition or the crusades? Why did it burn hundreds of "witches" in Salem? Why did it have a position of no involvement during the Holocaust? And why did the priest's bosses cover for them as hundreds of little boys were molested? History has made my mind up for me. The day I hear something good about the catholic church I might reconsider. Tough questions I know but have you yourself ever taken the time to consider them?

I think that the reason why people have these beliefs about us catholics is because some of us don't exactly follow what the church teaches...we just "consider"ourselves catholic when we really don't even go to church or go just to see what so and so wore...I have friends who just because they were baptised when they were little they say they are catholic to even though they dont ever go to church they dont confess, they don't really know where the church stands on different things like abortion, gay marriages..etc and they think that the eucharist is just a plain simple piece of bread which is not at least not to us catholics. So its actually all those "catholics" who make the whole catholic community look awful. I am catholic and I try to be a good catholic and while it is really hard when all these people question you because they have all these preconceived notions about us but i love my faith and thats all that matters and the one who will finally judge is one way above...:)

Good point! I've perused this part of the Q&A board and have seen only one Catholic here. The stuff I read is mainly from the mainstream "Christians" who spew their hatred of the Catholic Church, the good, loving and accepting Christians that they are.

I've seen non-Catholics answer direct questions about Catholicism, and their answers are nowhere near true, they're simply dismissing the beliefs of the church while imparting their authority.

It doesn't matter, when Christianity itself begins to eat away at other Christian beliefs, then what will we be left with? Some people just need to practice their love and understanding rather than just preaching it. And I'll include myself in there too.

Many people aren't Catholic. Any question asked on here about Catholics is a valid question because even if they are closed mined maybe other people are not. The Catholic Church has gotten a bad rep. for somethings and a great rep. for others. Most people are not educated in the Catholics' doctrine anything they know is hearsay or bad experience or rumor. So ignorance is blist if people don't know that they want to know they won't ask the right questions.
