You can start looking as early as your sophomore year but I would recommend mid junior year to beginning senior year. It will also depend on what kind of scholarship you are applying for and what the requirements are. Things like essay contests and other scholarship awards such as that you can apply for anytime however some require specific grades (i.e. first semester senior year, final grades, etc.) or even want to know the specific school that you are applying to. Its never too early to start looking though and seeing what the requirements are. Apply to any that you are eligable.

You can start as early as you can.The sooner the better. It will reduce your stress from your senior year. You don't even have to be a high school student to apply for a scholarship...There are many scholarships out there that all they require is to write an essay or simply completing something..It is never to early to start..It will only give you an advantage and you won't feel stressed like you would if you wait until your senior year.

Start as soon as you can, don't wait for guidance counselors to tell you it is the right time, start when you think you should start but the sooner the better, most scholarships are first come first serve so even if you don't get it that year you know you can apply earlier next year.

It is better to apply as early as you can so you can accumulate enough scholarships to pay for college.
