I watch the Wednesday and Friday night fights each week. I turn the Mute button to get rid of Teddy Atlas' know it all constant chatter. It's nonstop. I think you should put a muzzle on him or put him in the back room. I also watch HBO and Showtime boxing and it's a pleasure to hear Manny Stewart's commentary. I think if he wants to be a coach do it in the gym and not on the mike. Let us enjoy the sport without all the babble and rambling.

I'm with Jane on this one. I can listen to Teddy most of the time, especially when he's demonstrating strengths and weaknesses of a fighter, or showing what their strategy and counters should be for a particular opponent.

I could listen to Manny every day, all day. He's one of those old pros that just _KNOWS_ his business.

Poor old Larry. Somehow he's become an icon. I think just through longevity. I really have a hard time listening to him at all. My favorite part of any HBO broadcast is when Jim asks Lederman, "Harold, how do you have it?" .. "Well, Jim ... " and Harold gives a great synopsis of his scorecard. Then, without fail and without anyone prompting or even caring, Larry says, "I have it ..."

I'm not sure that I've liked any of the fighters they've put in as the third guy, Foreman, Jones, Lewis, etc. There's an art to play-by-play broadcast and these guys just aren't up to speed.

I could just go with a Lampley-Steward two man show, personally.

Teddy does go a little overboard during some of his commentary. However, I like that he knows the sport the way he does. Plus, I think its funny whenever there is a controversy in the ring and he just loses it.

I liked watching Max Kellerman when he was doing fights on ESPN before he let his ego get the better of him. I hope that he does a good job on Boxing After Dark.

I cannot stand listening to Larry Merchant though. I swear he gets paid by the word and gets additional pay for using more complicated words. He always tries to overexplain everything.

I like Manny's commentary because he knows how to get his message across without acting like the fans are idiots.

A lot of people actually do enjoy listening to Teddy Atlas and learning from him. I have to admit I'm one of those people. Sure, it's coaching, but it helps us get more insight into what fighters actually learn in the gym and we can see how they use that in the ring.

Of course, sometimes Atlas does get carried away - especially if someone mentions amateur boxing (in which case he gets all googly eyed) or when someone mentions Mike Tyson (it's amazing how he can grit his teeth so much while talking at the same time). Yes, there are sometimes when I have to put it on mute, too.

Manny Stewart is a great commentator, I have to agree with you there, but he's a very sought-after trainer so we don't get to see him do commentary quite as much as we'd like to.

As far as just enjoying the sport, I hope you intend to stay away from commentators who just do constant cheer-leading (especially when they're cheering for the guy I'm rooting against). I'd rather listen to knowledgeable chatter than listen to Larry Merchant drooling over Wladimir Klitschko anyday. :D

What I do when anyone is babbling on and on is tune them out completely or just rush out of there to get a quick snack or tend to my dogs real quick and rush back just in time to watch the guys box again. I, sorta of, miss Max and his gorgeous big, sexy eyes and neatly trimmed outline to his goat tee that I never really minded his babbling because he even did that very graciously. But, then, that's my opinion. If he really bothered you that much it's because he went way overboard because it got to his head being he got selected as the sexiest guy sometime before October 2004 when his brother was killed. Teddy Atlas seems to be hoping he will, someday, also be selected sexiest man, however, it could happen for him too.
