It is possible to loose body weigh but gain body fat. Here is how. Muscle weighs more than body fat. Suppose you worked out in the gym a lot for a year. Let's say you weighed 190 lbs. A good portion of this weight is comprised of muscle weight. Let's say you stopped working out for 2 years and ate a lot of junk food. You would lose your muscle mass and gain body fat. You may end up weighing 175 lbs with a big belly.

Absolutely!!! Just ask Tony Mandrich (The 2nd overall NFL draft pick in 1989). He was an offensive lineman who went to school at Michigan State. In college, he weighed 310 pounds, but was only about 8% body fat (The guy was built like a huge Greek god). It was rumored that he was using steroids in college, and MSU would not have him tested.

When he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, he held out until the very last minute before signing a contract. His weight had dropped to about 260, but it was obvious he had added about three or four inches around his gut. Though it was never proven, many (including myself) believe he went off the steroids after being drafted, and doing so caused him to loose a lot of his muscle mass. His NFL career was very short lived, and he is considered to be in the top ten amongst first round busts. I am a Lions fan, and, since Green Bay, our arch rival in the then NFC Central (Now the NFC North) took this bum, we ended up with some guy out of Oklahoma State named Barry Sanders.

I would think that it is. Since you can lose body fat by gaining muscle, which causes you to gain weight, you ultimately gain weight and lose body fat. Your question about losing weight but gaining body fat is the opposite of this, so logically, it should be possible.

Well, since muscle weighs more than fat, and you are loosing weight and gaining fat...I would say loosing muscle is the only way that is possible.
If you started to build your muscle strength up again it would help loose body fat and your weight MAY increase slightly...but yeah it's definitely possible to loose weight and gain fat.

Certainly. Try living on nothing but sugar or alcohol for calories. Your muscles will waste away w/o proteins to maintain them. And your body will store the excess sugar as fat. There you go: muscle loss = lost body weight and fat storage = gained body fat.

After reading this I really want to share something because I spent years jumping from diet to diet without seeing any results until I discovered Pams magic plan (just google it). It is without a doubt the most weight loss that I have ever achieved and I have not put it back on to this day.

Yes you can loose weight too fast causing muscle loss which increases your body fat. This is why all crash diets fail.

Sure your muscle in you body has to be used. It you don't use it, it goes away and is replaced by fat.
