Absolutely. Plus CDs & DVDs are sensitive to light exposure, scratches, dust, etc. DVD has a coating that can be worn away, damaged, etc., and this can affect playback or data integrity.

DVDs are stated to have a life expectancy of 100 to 200 years or more; CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM discs should have a life expectancy of 25 years or more. Little information is available for CD-ROM and DVD-ROM discs (including audio and video), resulting in an increased level of uncertainty for their life expectancy. Expectations vary from 20 to 100 years for these discs.

BUT, this depends on the care exercised with the disc. And finally, check the condition of you DVD player. If the player has no issue with other DVDs, then that's a signal the disc may be going bad. If the player has problems with ALL discs, it's likely the player or TV.

Impossible. The disc can get scratches or whatever, but the content on the disc never changes.
