No, a lot of us have fathers who were little more than sperm donors. Hopefully they feel like the heels that they are on that day.

I hate Father's Day because my dad was never there for me. He was abusive and outright mean (long story). He left many times growing up, blamed the divorce on me, etc...hate it and always will and yes I'm a mom and married. Kids celebrate it and that's fine but I don't have a dad who cared enough to celebrate with. (He's still alive). He doesn't call me ever, he doesn't contact me or anything...

I used to hate Father's Day when I was younger for the same reason:my father wasn't there for me he was always drinking. When he had his last drinking episode he almost killed himself. He changed. He started attending church and turned his life around. Then BOOM....he was diagnosed with cancer and only had 3 weeks left to live but he fought it for 9months so he could spend valuable time with his daughters. Well, my father died June 17th, 1998>we buried him the day before father's day. So now I don't hate Father's Day, I just hate celebrating it. It is one of the hardest days of the year for me.
If you don't want to see your dad & celebrate Father's Day with him, at least send him a card because once he is gone, he's gone. I always hear the phrase, 'It's never to late!' well, sometimes it is. But you have the right to hate Father's Day if you want to.

Well, it seems you have good reason to hate Father's day.
I don't hate it but I always feel akward on it. My father and I never really spent much time together, so I don't love him to death, but I don't hate him. An entire day dedicated to a man I hardly know, it just dosn't work in my book.
I can very much sympathize though. It seems that this "holiday" just rubs it in the face of people with divorced parents, estranged fathers, etc.

Hey Rose,
I don't hate father's day or mother's day. It's another date on the calendar to me. I do not like either of my parents as they are manipulative and self centered people. They have also both not been so nice to me. Says a lot that that's the strongest language that I can use LOL.
Not to mention the step-B, but the days. I get through them just fine, especially since I don't tend to hear from them on those days!!!
Good luck. Just be heatlhy, and do the est you can do for yourself.

I'm with you. Father's Day and Mother's Day are to celebrate good parents. The problem is, bad parents THINK they are/were good parents and expect those of us who managed to turn out normal despite their efforts to ruin us completely to celebrate them on these stupid days. I always send a card because I feel obligated and it keeps them from getting hurt so I don't have to deal with it but i never send the "remember when I was small and you were such a great parent" cards. I find one with a joke or one that simply says "Happy . . ."
I agonize over these days every year. Someday I'll make my own line of greeting cards that say "You don't deserve this but I'm obligated to sent it".

Do you have any other man who stood as a father figure to you? If not, God is our heavenly Father and He can definitely fill in that gap. Find a church that has a loving congregation that you can get support from. I hope the best for you. God bless you!
