I am making a black bean soup for work, it says I have to soak the beans overnight. I am making the soup on Sunday and I do not work Saturday. Would it be ok to start the beans soaking on Friday?

You dont even really have to soak black beans befor you cook them. A big pot only takes about 2-3hrs to cook. I never soak them... If you really want to though, it is easier to bring them to a boil, cover them and turn them off. Then let them soak for an hour or two, it works the same as overnight. But by that time, they would almost already be cooked anyway. If you let them sit in wanter more than just over night and they are nor refrigerated, they will go bad. Beans (and rice) go bad very quickly when not refrigerated.

Soak them overnight, change the water a couple of times and add a little baking soda to the soaking water if you want to get rid of the smelly little aftereffects of eating them. Your workmates will thank you!

I wouldn't because your beans will turn to mush when you cook them. Unless of course, your beans are super old, then they have to soak longer and cook longer. I know this because, unfortunately, my mother never threw anything away!!

I make these alot, and find it better to put the beans and water in your pot, bring to boil-let boil 2 mins. take off heat, cover and let stand 1 hour then continue with your recipe(also they produce less gas this way) ENJOY

If you soak them too long they might split open. I would just wait till Saturday.

you don't want to over soak them, they can retain to much water causing them to split open and break apart. just follow the directions on the bag they come in and you will be OK.
