someone told me go to banks directly and ask for a unsecured credit line...but I'm confused about the real difference between secured and un secured and what's better.

basically a secured credit card is one based on a deposit, say you deposit $ 100, and they give you a credit card of $ 100 or more (sometimes they may offer 2-3 times the deposit).
If you have no credit, you can probably get a store credit card quickly and easily and then by that virtue a major unsecured credit card within a couple months.

Get some credit cards from your favorite stores like Walmart or whatever or even your gas station and start buying stuff with the cards and make payments on the items that you buy. Of course don't miss any payments. After about a year or so if you still have a good steady job apply for a bank credit card like Visa.

Visa was my first bank credit card.

When we were in the process of buying a house, we didn't have the greatest credit. We were told to ask a family member who had good credit...and a good history of making payments on a credit card...and ask them to put your name on the account. This will boost up your score. When you obtain the loan, just ask the family member to take you off as a cosigner.

Had a family member or good friend to put you as an authorized user on their credit card. This will establish a history of credit for you.

Besides the credit card way...there is another by asking your parents to co-sign on an account for you, for example, if you need a new/used car or want to rent an apt.
