Illegal farm workers are paid slave wages why change that?

A little sesationalism I admit, but I do not believe they are and here is why, please tell me if you agree.

I thought I would take the opportunity to check out the point of view on immigration from the UFW, or the United Farm Worker's Union.

What I immediately found out, is that illegal farm workers are UNIONIZED along with other legals I suppose. In fact, they are so proud of the great strides they have made in wages, housing, benefits, health care and such that they are currently asking people to sign a petition that would make thier founder, Cesar Chavez, a national holiday.

What did this mean? This means there's no such thing as an illegal immigrant that gets $1 an hour or less to pick crops. They are unionized and represented as a force in business! Now, when you consider the benefits, especially housing provided by their employers, their pay has got to be over minimum wage if not more - how much does your trips to the doctor cost and you must contribute something?

Now, let's be fair. The overwhelming majority of illegal aliens aren't picking cotton, they are in fast food, restaurants, chinese restaurants, any low level job you can think of.

Now, the UFW wants the ability without recourse to get as many Mexicans up here from Mexico.

Now this took a spin on things for me. If buisness suppoorts this and gives the impresion they are that helpless, why do they do it? The only reason I could come up with is to sidestep their responsibilty in the free market of having a turnover. In other words, they get to contrl their workforce! Less benefits and a little more pay and no American would knock it.

Now, by getting as many here, they raise their families and teach their children what a hardship it is to come to America but the are survivors. I'm thinking, when the ones who grow up and out of that are from a culture that Americans mistreat, and have no problem fighting for Mexican's rights, but not for the US, for Mexico. Perhaps.

It's so much wool pull over our eyes to take what is ours. Not only would Americans do any job, but no fruits or vegetables would cost 10 bucks unless like in the 70's with the gas lines to purposely create a panic for price fixing.

Any comments? They are represented Unionized, and treated better than any of us.

Now, without the Free Economy of who works there component, to me controlling your workforce like that is paid slavery. And of course the Compnay makes all the rules and decisions. How much of your life would you want controlled by your job more than it is already?

Now the ones that get out, or by other means, they get free trining you or I could never get and many many many illegals hold skilled jobs and, in Califiornia, even servie oon the school boards to skew our education system to Mexico's.

TruthTeller: Well, they care because they are playing falsely on the sympathy of the American public that we need them more than they need us. Even President Fox says illegal immigrants are better than blacks because they work harder and do more.

Farms--the percentage that are working sweat farms is very very small. But they are out there and our poor work them too including living in those trailers on the farm. And many from Katerina went to these farms to see if they could get immediate help(and many could not). But even most (yes most)farmers hate this its putting small farmers out of their livelihood.

Is it fair--No- but understand this is not happening on huge scales. Most work elsewhere and yes many work for min. wage--but so do many others. See Min. Wage bored on Web.

If your point is poor mistreated people; Stand in line. And the line starts way back there.

Sorry its not that I don't like you but No Amnesty and No more people until we straighten our own mess out.

You are so right!!! These ILLEGALS are NOT working for next to nothing,as they would have us believe!!!!!!!! They are also NOT "poor,honest people just trying to feed their family", either!!! A LOT of them are just GREEDY s.o.b.'s!!!!
Also,a MAJORITY of illegals do not even WORK on farms!!! The majority of construction workers,and plant workers are ILLEGALS!! I read in the paper a few months ago,where the ILLEGALS are starting to look for other jobs now,because at $12 an hour, they say they are not being PAID ENOUGH!!!! So Guatamalans are filling those jobs now!!!! So,you SEE where this is all heading???? Soon,they will be in EVERY industry,and every business,and be COMPETING for all these jobs,with our CITIZENS!!!!

yes they are making more money than people think ! one of my sisters is dating a illegal and he drives a brand new truck and his house costs almost 800 dollars a month thats a lot in my town the house is beautiful and hes doing this with someone elses ss number and is fixing to try to get a credit card? The border fence and ICE enforcement can't come too soon on this one....and to the extent and degree that Bush has been turning a blind eye to all this along with Big Lettuce, impeachment and lawsuits can't come soon enough...labor laws are labor laws, time to enforce em. They can grow lettuce in mexico, too...
