First studies show they cause people to gain weight-- possibly because of sweet taste. Some do not dee bad effects but that does not mean it is not hurting them. Your 11 year old kid could start smoking 2 packs a day and not see harmful effects.
Now there are lots of bad experiences with aspartame. But Sucralose (Splenda) is new so not enough time for a big buiild up of bad experiences but they are starting to come in. Studies show adverse effects but they were argued that the amount was too high. It is 600 times sweeter than sugar.
It is chlorinated sugar that they say is similar to chlorinated pesticides. See below site for a better alternative under "fat loss tips" and under diet you can see that the man-made foods are the unhealthiest and fattening of the foods. Also since splenda only needs small amounts it is far down on ingredient list where there are better sweeteners like xylitol and manitol (with nutrition) further up on list. I guess they just don't use them only since they cost more. Fake sugars have no nutrition.

Check out stevia.net for info on a new herb sweetener that is 100% natural. Aspartame and Splenda both can cause health problems and are straight chemicals. This new found herb called stevia sounds really promising in the world of calorie free sweeteners.

When I was pregnant with my son, I had gestational diabetes and the hospital nutritionist told me that aspartame was a synthetic amino acid and there were more amino acids in a 8 oz. glass of milk than in an 8 oz glass of diet coke. All I can say is go to the FDA or the CDC websites and see if you can find anything. But moderation is key. Drink more water.
Yes, sometimes drinking diet drinks could possibly make you gain weight. What people could think is if I drink this diet coke, I can have another candy bar. Saving calories on the drink!

not in moderation. Splenda is the best sugar substitute out there. It is sugar based. One molecule was removed and the body doesn't recognize the sugar. The others are chemicals.
