If you had the technology to remove unwanted memories, perhaps you would only end up wanting them back. * Your memories make you who you are, for worse AND for better as well; because of the mistakes you made, you have learned, because of the relationships that hurt, you learned to love.
Memories hold your past; the past make your present and aid your future. Why would you want to erase parts of that foundation? Wouldn't it just make things more unstable? If it is the pain, shame, guilt or confusion, or any other such feeling sthat emerge in context of those memories, there is a psychological technique to disassociate negative emotional responses that are used by several psychologists and psychiatrists to help patients who are not severely ill, but could use some help to channel negative responses and break habitual patterns to get a more positive, productive outlook. It's called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy**, and can also be an at-home technique that you can study on your own. Might work. No harm in trying.

There is a method to reduce or eliminate the emotional triggers which bring about a reaction to those memories but, the memories will never go away. They may become less intense as time passes and you find other things to think about.
Be aware, each time you have an emotional response to those memories, you are creating another stored trigger. Thus compounding the dilemma.

I was sexually abused as a child because my mother sincerely believed that I had killed her daughter (my sister) when I was 3 years old. By the time I was 14, I was her sex slave and her personal boy-toy. The purpose was to dominate me and "get even" with me. In truth, she hated me. These memories got worse and worse as I got older and I became suicidal when my mother died. I got some help and I learned that I was stronger than acts of revenge and I refused to remain a victim all of my life. I refused to give my mother that power to destroy me. I accepted what she did and I forgave her for it. This gave me some closure and I have been able to move on with my life. I hope you can do the same, because you are the most important person in the world. Nobody is better than you. Please believe that, because it is true and a lot of people love you.

memories are memories, they will always be in your brain, its how you view them that can be a problem, if you concentrate on them and let them get you down they will continue to haunt you. If you decide what is in the past is just that, the past and there is nothing you can do to change it, learn a lesson from it then move on it wont bother you so much

Think about the future. Don't look back. You can't change the past. When you start to dwell on unpleasant memories, read a book, go for a walk or focus on something else. Retrain yourself to think pleasant thoughts.

You can't get rid of it completely but you can learn to control it. Get support from family, or friends, or even a therepist if you like that idea, and just tell yourself, "I'm not going to let this control my life."
One thing that helped me most was getting more involved in my religion. I went to a Retreat, started reading the Bible and praying, and I can't tell you how much it's helped me.
Best of luck to you, hon!

You can not get rid of them. You just have to not think about it. Catch yourself when you start and make yourself think of something else. Over time, you will stop remembering, but you will never really forget.

Tell yourself not to think about them. Pretend they never existed. That's what has helped me. I used to struggle with the exact same problem.
