This will not end anytime soon - e.g. 5-10 years. In fact, it may never "end". Even IF it stabilizes, we will most certainly have a presence there. Look at Korea, Germany and many other countries were we still have bases (WWII ended 60 years ago, Korea a little less than that).

Yo pablo-- lighten up. Typical rightie jack-@ss comment-

In relative numbers, 2500 is small compared to previous wars. I'm sure if you ask the family of the fallen (or could ask the dead), 1 is too great a loss of life for this ill conceived and executed conflict.

Oh, let's not forget that we will be paying for this for generations to come.

Oh- one more-- Iraq did NOT attack us nor did they take part in 9/11. We went there under the false pretense that Sadamm had WMD's

It is actually 2500 not 25000 and yes it will end when we turn the security over to the Iraqi government in Mid 2008. Between now and then I would anticipate a gradual draw down of our troops as more an more of the security is given over to the Iraqi Security Force. Will we ever completely leave Iraq? Probably not, each party Democrat and Republican seem to wage war and never really bring the troops home - we still have forces in Japan and Germany since WWII over sixty years ago (Democrat) - Korea since the 1950's (Democrat), Bosnia early 90's (Democrat) - Afganistan (Republican) and Iraq (Republican) so the way I figure it the Republicans need to occupy one more country to catch up. (KIDDING) Let's hope that NEVER happens and we can bring the troops home when their mission is accomplished.

Try 2500+. But 25K is probably close to number of Iraqis and others killed or wounded overall.

It will not end under the present administration. Halliburton and others are making too much money. Change is needed! Remember this in November '06 and November '08!

First its 2,500 not 25,000 but its still a tragedy that any had to die. When is it going to end? Probably 2008 to 2010 but for most of our soldiers its likely going to end next year. Since nailing Zarkawi they've nailed over 850 of his cohorts and violence in Bagdhad at least is down significantly - almost over night. When the Iraqi people see what benefits they get for nailing these guys they'll be turning more of them in - you watch. You might be suprised to know we're winning in Iraq not losing. Read Zarkawis' own letter...even he said so.

Let's see, how many died when the towers came down? It's all Bush's fault our troops are dying in Iraq, yeah, right.......nobody twisted the arms of anyone that signed the dotted line to join our great military. Protecting our country is there job and dying is a part of doing that. Sorry to sound so blunt but, that's the way it is!! Wake up!! Do you think the towers was or will be the only attack on our great country???? Leave it to Beaver is long gone.

I have been in the military and on total death count the war in Iraq isn't even large vietnam 50,000 and as a comparison to that in the civil war the battle of gettysburg alone has a death toll of 50000 so Iraq just looks so bad because all the hippie liberals make it sound so bad have a talk with your average soldier and ask them

When are Islamofascists going to quit ramming planes into buildings and sawing of innocent Americans heads ? The conflict in Iraq will end eventually but this war will never end as long as there are Americans and extreme Muslims that hate us and our way of life.

2500 is a drop in the bucket compared to any other war in histroy. By the end no more then 5000 will have died and we will have systimaticly taken over a country and turned one of our worst enimies into our ally. In the end it will save 10s of thousands of lives and the cost will be nothing in comparison to the reward.

Its a good thing we didn't "just quit" after 2500 in France or the Pacific Islands. Even though the Germans never attacted Americans... neither did the Italians.

Yes... there were people who protested WWII saying the Germans never did anything to us..... who was right?
