Someone else just asked this question so I'll just post what I already wrote:
Yes, mainstream Satanists (LaVey Satanism) are atheists as well. Satanists don't actually believe the devil exists.
Written by a Satanist:
"Satan is not a real, living entity, conscious or a physical thing that can be interacted with. It is a symbol, something ethereal, something that basically doesn't exist except as an emotional attachment and personal dream. Just like Buddhists do not worship Buddha, Satanists hold up Satan as an ultimate principal rather than an object of literal worship. Satan inspires and provokes people, like all (honest) religions the ultimate point is self-help. God believers have a different opinion on what Satan is, but their opinion is a result of their religion. Satanism's Satan is much more eclectic and multicultural than to be defined by Christianity or Islam."
Of course, many religions have different denominations with their own sets of beliefs, there may be some Satanists that actually do believe Satan exists. They though, like I implied above, are not mainstream Satanists.
-------------------
Most people don't understand what Satanism actually is, they just assume, as you can see by reading many of the other answers you have recieved.

I am not an atheist or a Satanist, but I would have to answer no.
If my understanding of Satanists is correct, they believe that Satan is a deity. However, if you are an atheist, you do not believe in ANY deity at all. Hence, you could not believe in Satan either.
Just my interpretation of things. :) I'm sure there will be more info from atheists and/or Satanists.

An atheist can claim to be a satanist, but a true atheist does not admit the existence of God. Satan is a God of evil, and so cannot be admitted to exist either.

I would think not, since a belief in Satan assumes a God, you are accepting a belief. A true Atheists would argue there is not a God or Satan or Allah for that matter. I believe the two are mutually exclusive.
vern7us I think that line is from Star Wars not Jesus -- but I could also be confusing my super natural beings ;-)

'Satan' is defined as:
(Judeo-Christian and Islamic religions) chief spirit
of evil and adversary of God
Atheists do not believe in the existence of gods or 'spirits' and do not adhere to any religion, including the Judeo-Christian or Islamic religions, and therefore cannot believe in the existence of Satan either.
Hence atheists cannot be satanists.
