Difficulty holding a job for more than a few weeks, and that only because sometimes you can fool people for a few weeks. Difficulty holding a husband, live-in boyfriend, family member or roommate, because I have the hoarding form of OCD, which makes me very difficult to live with. My collected clutter makes people claustrophobic and uncomfortable. Difficulty making decisions, even unimportant ones such as where to have dinner. Tends to irritate people. Landlords hate me--I try never to let them in while I am in residence, or I would be evicted on the spot--because after I leave, they usually have to tear out the carpets and start over. Impossible to vacuum when there are piles of clutter everywhere all the time. I have been divorced 4 times. I seem to only get worse with my symptoms as I get older. The same thing happened to my father: My mother divorced him, he ended up living alone in a trailer park, where he filled his trailer up to the ceiling with clutter and trash, even the bedroom, even the bathtub(!). and had only a narrow path to go through the house. He could never let the landlord in to see how he lived, so he was afraid to ask them to fix anything. If the toilet broke, he fixed it himself or just lived with it. If the heat went off or the fridge quit, same deal. DIY or just deal with it. He had no hot water for years. Sorry to get so wound up, but it truly does affect sufferers' lives in a negative way. I live in fear that I will become as bad as my father was.

the common misconception of OCD is people repeating things as they saw in a move or talk show. OCD can mean they obsess over anything. IF it has an affect on your daily life, usually you see a psychiatrist for medication. some people have mild forms. OCD can range from obsession about germs (afraid to go anywhere they might get sick), foods, repeating tasks, washing, counting and catagorizing things. It affects adults and children. If the case is very severe the person might not want to leave the house, have a job, go to school or eat

Well I had a boyfriend who had it. I didn't know much about it until he told me about his condition. For him he was afraid of animals, afraid to get bitten or get rabies. He asked me twice if my cats had their rabies shots ( that made me a little upset ). He also said he would some times become paranoid when driving, like for a sec if he saw some pedestrains waiting to cross the crosswalk far away from his car and he crossed the crosswalk, for a sec he would freak out thinking he hit someone. I didn't understand that, and the other thing is like if he would go into a store and be wearing a watch that was his, but if he saw that same watch in the store and then was leaving, he would get nervous thinking that he was walking out of the store with merchandise. So yea, all I know is those examples he gave me, but other than that he seemed ok.

depends what u are obsessive compulsive on. usually daily life is hard since the person tends to do actions over and over again. some people check if the door is locked 10 times before actually getting to their car...some people wash their hands 20 times, which eventually causes physical problems...some people avoid stepping on cracks on the sidewalk...it can be debilitating!

My husband has OCD! He pushes the fridge door 20 times after closing it, he shakes the front door after locking it when we go out. He turns the facuets so hard he's broken some, and made others almost impossible for me to turn on. He doesn't take his medication because of side-effects. It totally messes with his daily life.

It can have some serious bad effects. Trust me, I know, I have OCD. You are so much absorbed with the thoughts that you can't concentrate on your daily activities(work, social life, household work). It slows you down and prevents you from being happy. However, with my faith in God, I have not been suffering as much as I used to and I have been able to control them better, however I still have my rough days when I can't control the OCD thoughts.
