If you do decide to get a perm and are worried it will frizz get a perm with rods no smaller than white and no larger than purple. Anything larger will not give you curl rather a slight wave. A rod that is smaller than white will give you a lot of curl but probably more than you want.
The reason your hair got frizzy before was it was dry. Perms are a chemical process and all chemical processes dry out the hair. Use a shampoo for curly or permed hair. Either one will be fine. These are good product choices because the shampoo contains gentle cleansers and the conditioner is very moisturizing without being heavy. Good Luck.

I have always wanted curly hair too. I looked at some pictures at the beauty salon that I go to and wanted to wait until my hair got a little longer. With shoulder length hair then getting it permed will make it look a little shorter. Your hair will be frizzy sometimes if you dont use the right stuff to control it. After 3 months it probably will start to fall out. After my sister got hers done, the lady who permed it wanted to come get her hair cut about every other month so the perm will grow out right.

Before you do anything, remember that curly hair takes alot of maintenence: frizz control creams or serums, scrunch sprays, etc... "Scrunch and go" is not really the reality of most curly hair care, it's more like, you either do all the necessary steps for maintaining it, or you just pull it back. It doesn't matter if your hair is naturally curly or permed, it definitely takes work to make curls defined and beautiful, like it sounds like you want. But if you decide to go the perm, there are other options now, including a perm to make your hair wavy (instead of super curly) which might be a good option for you. But definitely grow it out a bit, perms do shorten your hair, and short curly hair is even more challenging to maintain. Good luck!

Long hair looks good with some wave. Others are saying no but, I think you should talk to your hair dresser about it. Perms have changed alot and they have certain perms for different hair types. You can look at books at the beauty shop and show your hair dresser what you have in mind. Check some styles out on line too. Good Luck and do what you want with your hair.

Well if it's a different texture, you should totally try again. Worst case is you'll end up with the frizzies again. But if you want to stay on the safe side, don't get a perm. You could always try your curling iron every morning if you have the time

wow i've often thought about that myself. our hair sounds pretty similar. i've asked various hairdressers and they have all deterred me from getting a perm. i too had perms when i was 14 - 16 and think i'd handle a perm now i'm a bit older. if you went ahead with it, make sure they do spiral curls. if your hair is super straight anyway, if you don't like it, i'm sure it will drop out within a few months if you wanted it to by combing it out in the shower.

LOL, I have shoulder length curly hair and I want mine straightened! The problem with curly hair is that you HAVE to style it otherwise it looks frizzy and rubbish. You can't just brush it and go like you can with straight hair. My advice would be to stick with your straight hair for the sake of convenience.

Do what you want to, but I think a lot of people would agree that straight hair is hotter!
And yes, perms do make your hair easily frizzy.
