first of all, let me assure you: you will be learning about the world you live in a long as you draw breath on the planet. science is life. anatomy, zoology, botany, chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology, philosophy...every aspect of science affects life.
you have to learn science in high school to prepare you for the science you will get in college to be able to apply what you have learned to real-life experiences. if you are so blessed to live a long, fruitful & productive life,
science will touch every single decision that you make without a second thought on your part.
right now, studying science in high school is like watching paint dry. i know, i feel the same way about algebra! but hang in there.
i didn't see the relevancy of algebra in real life until i went back to college three years ago after being in the workforce for over thirty years. that's right - 30 years!
the light came on for me when i realized that i had already been using algebra whenever i sat on a planning committee to build a new restaurant site, or hired staff, scheduled training hours, or designing a product mix for a menu. 30 years - & yet i couldn't do a linear equation, find the slope of an angle, or solve a polynomial on paper to save my life.
when you are young, your mind is sharp. hang in there. science may seem boring as crap right now - it is. but thirty years from now, you will flow thru life applying one thing or another that you learned in high school without a second thought.
ask me how i know! ;-)
(my apologies if i sounded like your mom - my bad!)

To teach you some basics of science before your unleashed into the real world. High school is designed to give you a rudimentary rounded balanced education so that you can function as an adult. College is where you find a profession and learn more advanced material.

Let me answer your question with another question; Why not? don't you know the science is the base of almost all majors in higher education, and plus how you are going to learn tha basic things of you were brought up to this world and you may never know how your body works with the most simple things in life.

Learning science in high school gives you a background for things you'll run across later on in life, especially now that biotechnology and even nanotechnology are on the forefront of affecting our everyday lives... as often as people take perscription drugs, or microwave their food, or step outside and get sunburnt... if you paid attention in biology and chemistry class, you'd have a lot of answers for everyday things that happen.

Because science has a lot to do with everything.
There is science involved in everything you do. It is important to know why things are the way they are. It also promotes our brains to think and thus it helps you become a smarter person.

Because science is how we've learned pretty much everything that we've learned about the world in last couple of centuries.

This sounds kind of stupid but i'm pretty sure it's true: Because of the Cold War. America began implementing more science classes because we were trying to stay ahead of the Soviet Union during the Cold War. America wanted to produce smarter students so thatthe students would help America stay one step ahead of the Soviet Union during the nuclear arms race.

Is just part of requirements, and maybe because they are preparing you for college, plus, someone may like it and desides to be a freakin' rich scientist when they grow up.... I mean does it really matter ?!, the more knowledge the better that way you can look cool when some one asks you about it and you know the answere!!

So China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam don't surpass us in education. Wait, too late. There's a whole slew of dumb kids out there asking mind numbingly stupid questions like, "why do we have to learn this in high school?"
