What is the difference between Soda & Pop? I am orginally from the East and always called it Pop, out West they call it Soda. Is there a difference or is it just East/West wording/slang?

It's just dialect, and not necessarily East/West. I live on the East Coast, but down South. Here we call it "Coke" no matter what the beverage is. Oftentimes you can go into a restaurant, order a "coke" and the server will ask you what kind?! Here we also refer to it as "drink." Mostly I hear "pop" in the northeast and midwest, and even "soda-pop."

So in answer to your question "soda" and "pop" are the same thing - usually. SOME people are referring to soda water when they say soda. Like my dad, he orders Scotch and Soda, meaning club soda/soda water.

Its the same thing, just different wording. I grew up in the Midwest and always called it pop but have called it soda since interning on the East Coast in 1998.

Now I live in Hawaii and it seems that most of the people here call it soda, also.

I don't really think it's an east/west thing... I'm from the east coast and we called it pop, but people I know from around the great lakes areas all seemed to call it pop... maybe it has something to do with the lake water...

It's just east/west slang. There are regional variations, too. But I'm in California and it's always been soda.

There's no difference: Pop, Soda, Soda-Pop, Coke (that's what they call it in Texas, no matter which brand it is), Soft Drink, Cola, etc...

I think it is all about were you live, personally I usually call it pop, even though I think soda would be the correct term.

In the South, we call them all cokes.

Soda = Pop = carbonated drinks like Coke, Sprite, or Fanta
