very twisted question indeed.. I am manic depressive/bipolar, been on medication for years.. I would never consider stopping the meds. And I know I am tainting the part of the affliction that was most 'fun' because of the medication.. being manic is what most people would become if they found the ability to live out every ability of any superhero you could pull out of a comic book.. you have the answers for everything, you have the power to rationalize the most complex and unreachable ideas of what life is and what it means.. the secrets of life magically have rational explainations to the manic mind... But then it is no fun at all..
For me, I can say that when the know-it-all stage has given way to the out of control phase... the fun becomes beyond amplified.
Paranoia sets in, everyone and everything becomes an enemy and has to be dealt with in the most harshest means possible. There is no fun to be found in feeling like a powerless puppet dangling at the bottom of invisible strings you can not see to cut... and nobody else can see them to be able to help you out.
e being medicated and finding the right mix of prescriptions and dosages I feel a different kind of bipolar.. the colors of life are the same.. just less brightness.. more neutral.. everything averages out now.. and I am the one that holds the strings. Being bipolar has become my puppet to dangle, and I dont abuse the privilage. I know the day will come when medication may not work so effectively and I go crazy all over again.. lots of fun, but lots of stupid decisions that can not be remade, and lots of consequences that can not be avoided.
Life is more stable and emotions are more controllable.. and this brings an alternative to the madness. Life is so much better.. but not 'fun' .. I find a medicine induced sense of predictablity is a fair compromise.
If I could choose I would where to freeze my personal spectrum of it all, it be slightly below the psychotic stage of over the top... that is where the all fun is found..

They like the manic stage of the disorder. Think about it: Feeling on top of the world, always happy, eager to try anything while feeling invincible to failure. Having that kind of experience seems preferable to taking medication to numb it down. The problem is, that the meds work kind of long-term, so to stop during the manic phase makes the depressive phase just as intense as the manic was. Overall quality of life is better on the meds, while a few good times are had off meds during the manic phase. It's when they're off meds and slip into the depressive that the suicide problems start...

I think that just like nost poeple, there are unexpected special high moments that just happen in life. Maybe more of them for Bipolar (Manic Dep. ) people. However, it is REALLY important for MI people to get some balance in life and keep it too. It shouldn't be a matter of laziness whether to take the meds or not. It should be based on ACTUAL results. The question should be : is the person's total quality of life better with that med or without it.

well, I am bipolar, and off my meds only a few times in my life, I think I am ok, but that BAM watch out, the fun is over. so, being on medication is much better for you and I and everyone around us. :) It's not laziness that causes us to go off. It's because we are in a manic state where we are euphoric and feel so dang good that we can do anything, so that is why people go off meds.

This is a stupid and ignorant question. People with bipolar have to be on medications for their own safety. The depressive side, granted is not fun at all, and many commit suicide. But what you don't know, is that while the manic side can be fun for a while, it starts to get scary, and dangerous, and many cimmit suicide in this case as well. Do you think people committing suicide is fun? I don't. And I hope not all people are as ignorant as you!

My husband's bipolar...He seems to have more fun off his meds., but, my gosh, you should see the destruction he leaves behind after an episode and once he's back on meds....NOT worth it - he says.
