I planned my wedding from start to finish by myself. But it is like having a part time job- so if you work full time or go to school full time and work (any combo of those) you may want to think about it. or if you are trying for a full-on wedding in less than 5 or 6months from now- you'll probably need some help.

I didn't hire one for my wedding, but that's because I had the time to do it myself, I had a lot of help from my mom and other people, and I really like wedding planning. However, if you're a really busy person, I would highly recommend hiring a wedding planner, especially if you know the general ideas of what you want but don't care too much about a ton of details. A wedding planner can take over some of the mundane tasks, give you ideas, and put you in touch with valuable and perhaps cost-saving contacts. If your wedding will be very small and simple (50 people, ceremony only, for example), it may not be worth it to hire a wedding planner. It all depends on the bride, her schedule, and her personality.

I planned my own wedding and my brother's wedding (he was stationed in Germany at the time). It's not hard, just stay organized. Make a list of things that need to be done and get them done. I found a binder to be helpful. Call all vendors you are considering using and have them send you their proposal package. Once the initial planning is done, you don't have much to do until it's closer to the wedding, unless you're trying to plan a wedding in just a few months. A couple of weeks before the wedding you'll be very busy. Like I said, I never considered hiring a planner, of course, I've considered trying to be a planner so maybe you do need one. I've heard lots of people say that a planner was very stress relieving. I don't find planning a party to be stressful, I find it to be lots of fun. Good luck to you.

Why would you want to spend months stressing about all the details of the wedding? Instead hire someone to do the worrying for you. The planner can make sure all the details are taken care of for you, and if something does come up, they can handle it.

This wouldn't even be a question for me, there's NO WAY I WOULDN'T hire a wedding planner. They are about as important at the person marrying you.

No, I would not hire a planner as I think I can organise my own wedding, with the help of my b/f and family. It's not such a big thing in the UK, there are usually co-ordinators at your venue that help to organise the part that takes place on their premises but people usually handle their own plans. If it was a big lavish affair then yes I would probably consider it but as we would only have a handful of people there it would not be hard to organise.

oh my goodness...yes!!! my wedding is in less than 2 months and i thought i was the most organized person in the world, but working full time and trying to balance your "old" life with planning such a huge event is so difficult! i didn't think it would be so huge...but looking back i would have spent the extra money to have less sleepless nights and wedding planners can get you deals on parts of you "big day" that you would pay full price for w/o them. i found out the hard way that weddings are expensive and stressful. hire someone to help you!

I think if you have the money, then maybe it would be a great help, but you'd have to look into it properly.

There are some great books out though that are specifically to help and guide people who are planning their own wedding. Maybe if you check out some of these, you won't need a person to plan your wedding.

And as someone else alredy mentioned - a binder or folder to keep all of the details and quotes etc. inside would definately be a very good idea to help you stay organised and in control.

I found a book at Barnes and Noble that tells you how to plan your own wedding - even offers suggestions for themes, meals, seating etc.--- I did it and had lots of fun --- I put my friends and family to work --- since I worked 7 days a week! (I made lists and let them do the leg work).
... The average cost of a wedding in the US is around 20,000 dollars ---(A wedding planner's typical fee, according to an article in iVillage, is generally 10 to 15 percent of the cost of the wedding.)

I hired one for my wedding 14 years ago and was glad I did. I feel like I got more value for my money while keeping within my budget. Plus, since my parents had passed away, she helped with a lot of the things they would have done.
