Many view a belief in something greater than themselves as weak. But which is weaker to believe? That I have a commitment to live a life that helps as many people as possible regardless if that will bring about hardships for you or to live your life as if this is all there is and you just have to get whatever you can before it is over?

Many do not want to except that God exists because if He does then they have to change how they are living and that sadly is something that they don't want to do.

P.S. Many of the answers are refering to dogma and not to religion.

You know what, you will understand if you could just go thru a really bad situation,
where you wil not find nobody to understand how you feel and when your own
friends are not there for you when you need them the most and you feel like the world
is falling over you and you dont' know what to do. And the only way there is Jesus
Christ and you choose to take his path and he will change your life completely around which is something you'll never find in human , or human pleasures like sex, smoking, drinkin, none of that will ever compare. But when you got Christ in your life it has nothin to do with religion thats when you'll understand why we believe what we believe...

Hmn. You think religion is crap? Okay, let me smack ya with some science... Quantum Physics!

_Rules of Quantum Physics_
Mind is matter
What you believe is true, is
All possibilities are true or false till observed
Every being observes things differently

:) It's a shame you see religion as crap. But, you know what they say. Mind is Matter.

For the record, I'm not Atheist. :P

Obviously most people do, which I find curious. I think people have a lot of trouble dealing with the fact that they aren't going to exist after they die, so they look for a meaning beyond their own existence. It's a pity, since they could be making an effort to make things so much better right where they are, which is all we have.

You do realize that even an absence of a religion acts in itself as a religion? Seeing as it determines how you live your life. Apparently from your question you don't believe in a god, so I ask you how can you believe that there is no god?

Do you really think you are realistic and still have to ask a question like this? I'm realistic and I can accept that some don't believe what others do believe and I can live with that. What's your problem?

I believe there is more to life then what we understand and so, yes, I believe in God.I don't follow any specific religious institution.Faith can be as simple as belief in a higher power and knowing that there is more to life then what we can see. It's religious institutions that mess it up with their petty bigotry and mis-interpretations and constant rewriting of scriptures.

I believe that all religion is false and was created to destroy the souls of mankind. True Christianity though is true but you won't find it in many churches.
