I always carry sanitizing wipes and hand wash to keep our hands clean. Before putting my toddler in a shopping cart, I disinfect the handles and surrounding areas. My inlaws think Im crazy but people are FILTHY! Some viruses can live up to 2 days on surfaces....so by disinfecting....at least I am narrowing my child's chances some.....what do you think about this?

I don't touch door handles to bathrooms either....or use public phones without disinfecting....people are gross! I'm not a clean freak.....just disgusted by all the disease causing bacteria in public places....I do wish more people highly regarded cleanliness!

This is a great idea. If you ask me, stores should be responsible for sanitizing those shopping carts. I do not handle a shopping cart handle myself without sanitizing it first. The thought of what could be living on that handle freaks me out! I think this is responsible parenting! You are trying to protect your child from dangerous germs. Your inlaws should take a lesson from you!

GOOD FOR YOU! I do the same! Shopping carts are nasty nasty nasty! Just think how many people use them without washing their hands, and how many kids touch them ugh! I always wipe down the carts! My son likes to ride in the ones that look like cars and it's hard to get those clean, so I just wipe his hands when we are done shopping. I'm not a freak when it comes to germs, but I do wipe down the carts and I don't like to touch door handles in public restrooms!! ewww!

I have to say that you may be doing your toddler harm. By over sanitizing it actually hinders the normal growth of the childs immune system and can lead to some serious issues once they start school. There have been some studies that point towards oversanitation leading to food allergies, which can be fatal. You do have to do what you think is right though

Good idea - i would too (if i had children!) I see so many women leaving toilet cubicles without washing their hands and of course they are then going to go out and touch door handles/shopping carts/phones etc etc... And i don't imagine most men are much better!
