As a soldier, my comrades and i have a responsibility to do our duty to protect the nation and our way of life. We are in Iraq to protect the nation from future terrorist threats as well as Saddam's threats of bio and chem war. Why is it that so many people ridicule and complain about soldiers being killed and injured? Why do people think the military is losing this war? Isn't it politics that got us still here?

I know what you mean. You can even see it on this board. How we are stupid and if you fight this war you should die. As if I chose to separate from my 1 year old when i went to IRAQ.People like to over exaggerate everything. No one really thinks the military is loosing this war. I mean if the military was loosing the war there would be more than the 2,500 dead in three years. After all there is over 120,000 soldiers in Iraq at any given time.
Loosing is the last thing people really think. Politics is what has you there and it is whats going to keep soldiers there for a while. i mean aren't they just now starting to close the bases down in Germany. Those were there to make sure Germany didn't invade another country. I think that threat has great diminished yet the bases are just now being closed. Politics and money are the roots of all evils.

The official story on Iraq has never made sense. The connection that the Bush administration has tried to draw between Iraq and al-Qaida has always seemed contrived and artificial. In fact, it was hard to believe that smart people in the Bush administration would start a major war based on such flimsy evidence. The pieces just didn't fit. Something else had to be going on; something was missing. In recent days, those missing pieces have finally begun to fall into place. As it turns out, this is not really about Iraq. It is not about weapons of mass destruction, or terrorism, or Saddam, or U.N. resolutions. This war, should it come, is intended to mark the official emergence of the United States as a full-fledged global empire, seizing sole responsibility and authority as planetary policeman. It would be the culmination of a plan 10 years or more in the making, carried out by those who believe the United States must seize the opportunity for global domination, even if it means becoming the "American imperialists" that our enemies always claimed we were. Once that is understood, other mysteries solve themselves. For example, why does the administration seem unconcerned about an exit strategy from Iraq once Saddam is toppled? Because we won't be leaving. Having conquered Iraq, the United States will create permanent military bases in that country from which to dominate the Middle East, including neighboring Iran.
This Is The Real Goal Of USA In Iraq.

First off, good freakin' question. I have to give you an answer to this, as my husband was over in Iraq, and many of our friends were over there twice...and sadly not all of them came home.

I do not know the answer to this, but I will give you some of my theories. Some ppl do not see the war as a "protecting" mission, it is merely for oil. Please keep in mind, I do not agree with or hold these beliefs, they are only what I have observed. People do not like seeing people killed or hurt, that is why they ridicule and complain when a soildier dies or is injuryed. These people do not understand the pride that most of you soldiers feel and have toward and for this country. Also in that same sense, these people cannot comprehend the whole "brothers-in-arms" thing. I think that people think that the military is losing the war because they see it as fighting a losing battle. They see it as the US trying to police the world. A lot of people view it as "it's their (Iraq's) problem, not ours, so why are we over there. They don't want us over there and they didn't ask for our help." Also, when no weapons of mass destruction were found...it kinda put a damper on the whole "Saddam's threats of bio and chem warfare" Now, if those weapons have been found and I simply missed that fact, I apologize and disregaurd that last statement.

Yes, politics is what got us over there and still over there. What people do not seem to understand though, is that we cannot just simply pull out in one day. Our troops have spent countless hours fighting over there, many have died, and many more have been permantly disfigured and scarred in that process. If we were to simply pull out before things are atleast under some type of control, what did those people fight and die for? We will have left a job unfinished and what type of message is that sending to the men and women of our military....thanks, but it wasn't really needed?? I don't think so!

You have a great day, and thankyou for all that you have done for me, my family, and this country.

I'll tell you what bothers me not only as a military wife but as someone who was in the military and whose parents were also in. It drives me crazy when the people speaking out against us being in war are the ones whose family and friends aren't there! It doesn't affect them the way it does us. As it is, more people have died on the US highways in the past two years then have been killed while we've been in Iraq. Are they saying we need to stop driving because it's too dangerous? They don't even tell you about that!

My hubby just spent a year in Iraq and came home this past Dec. I for one SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. I supported why our troops went to war, because of 9-11. I support the fact that our troops are making life for those in Iraq. However Iraq does have there own government now and have had one for a while so its time for Iraq to take care of themselves. Why should our troops put there lives on the line when we need you home incase we need you. What do we do if something happens here (like 9-11) and most of our troops are deployed to Iraq and surrounding areas? We cant baby Iraq for eternity and its time for them to step up and take care of themselves now.

I could be wrong, but I think you'll find that most of the people who denounce the war still support the troops. I think you are a hero for putting your life on the line in the defense of your fellow man. I also think that those in power should have good reasons for putting you in harm's way. Your life and your sacrifice are far too important to be wasted on a mistake.

Thank you for doing what you do.

Toxic... a big Al Kut Salute.....

People think (or wish) we are losing so they can justify their hatred of the CINC. This is all about reliving their failures in the 60s-70s or wishing they were there instead of just talking about it... this will be their "war story"... you know... like the guy with 4 hours of war stories and 5 minutes of war. They want failure so bad that they are willing to "create it" in their own minds to feel like their very loud and vocal opposition is important.

1. because the news is telling a different story than what's really going on for publicity.
2. because people that say blame the military and not the leaders are a bunch of illitirate basterds that dont get out much and don't know whats going on!
