she might have an infection. this happens sometimes and i've actually seen it in cats and dogs. you might want to take her to the vet to make sure. you don't need your new pups drinking from an infected tit.

It might be an inflammed or infected nipple. So bring her to the vet to have it checked out as soon as possible to prevent it progressing into something worse. If all the other nipples are a lil' swollen as well, it's only natural because she's breast-feeding at the moment. But if that single nipple is a lot more swollen than the others, I would have it checked out by a vet, especially if she's in pain, refusing to feed, or runs a fever....all indications that she's feeling unwell. If the vet suggests a course of antibiotics, remember to ask if it's suitable for your dog to go on breast-feeding her pups. If not, you can feed them milk formulas for puppies from a bottle. While she's recuperating and exhibits signs of pain, you can try placing a cool (not ice cold!) towel on the sore nipple to help ease the pain a little while she's resting.
Good luck!

If it is an infected milk duct (mastitis) the area will be hot and possibly red. You can use a heating pad over a damp cloth on the area 2 times a day for about 15 min each time. Two days should take care of it.
If the milk in that tit is yellow, don't let the pups nurse on it, it can kill them. Express the milk and cover the tit with some tape untill the milk is normal again.

If it is red and/or hot then it could be an infection and the dog should be taken to the vet right away.
If there is no other problems other than being very swollen, try and get the puppies to nurse on that one as often as you can until the swelling goes down. You can also apply a warm compress to help alleviate the fullness and get the milk flowing.
If neither of these help by tomorrow morning make sure you call the vet and ask them about it.

Good Luck!

Try expressing her nipple. If milk comes out, put one of the pups on it. She probably has an overload of milk and the puppies have not nursed on it. If no milk comes out, I would call the vet and make an appointment. Something maybe wrong. If you are not sure how to express the nipple, all you need to do is squeeze it until you see milk. My dog just had puppies about a week ago and I had to do the same thing. Hopefully it is just alot of milk built up. Good luck!!!!

If I understand your question right your dog has a swollen nipple. If the milk bag is full try milking it ,if it fells hot ,not warm ,but cool water bags around it ,not ice. Ice can coo,l down to fast and cause cramping or the milk to clot.Try to milk the nipple gentle squeezes from the top of the milk bag ,but firm. If you can not get any milk call your local vet. Good luck!

She probably has mastitius in it. Is it hot to the touch & kind of hard? If so she will need antibiotics for the infection, but you can give her some relief by using a warm wash cloth & holding to the teet so the milk will let down or release relieving some of the pressure.

It's sounds like she may have a mastitis infection. Try to make sure one of the puppies nurses on it. The infection will not affect the puppy.
If it doesn't start to clear up in a couple of days, you should take her into the vet.

Put cold compresses on her breast and don't allow the pups to sleep on them pulling them down. Watch them and be sure they are feed well and then remove the mother and let her go out side or in another room
