She is grey with black patches. Australian shepard mix. She is about 5 months old and very very smart. We are taking her to obedience school and she is doing great.
A little history on her: We rescued her from the euthanatia room at our shelter. They were preparing to put her to sleep. We have had her for about a month and we have been calling her Leela, but I don't like the name.
If you would like to see her, you can go to www.pawsoftulsa.org and click and dogs for adoption.

She is actualy not mine (unfortionately). She is my foster. She is up for adoption. I love her and would love to keep her, but I would be at my limit and not able to foster any more dogs.

Hi Melissa,
Great work you did! :)
First, take a good look at your new beautiful pup, observing her behaviour and actions, and grab the first name that comes to mind. I used this method for all the pets I've got and had in the past, and the names always represent my animals friends to a tee.
I currently am a proud mummy to an all black cat whom I'd rescued half dead from under a tree when he was smaller than my palm, and called him Jinx, from the fact that I almost lost him during that first week when he was so weak, he couldn't even feed properly. Jinx's a big, healthy 3 year old now :)
Similarly, I named my dog Shine because she was so fiesty and active.
For you, no one can tell you what to call your little friend. Others named her Leela and you didn't like it, so there you go.
Observe her, and open your mind to her energy and ways. You'll be pleasantly surprised at the very suitable names that pop into mind as you look at her lovely face.
Good luck!

Usually dogs names that are short and end in "y" or "ie" are easier for people to remember, for some reason I dont know why. What are her behaviors? Does she do something that is amusing or nice to you? You dont have to use a true word for a dog. You can make up a word. But think about how easy the word is to say. If she ever gets out and you name her, oh lets say....Belinda. Then you will walk around the neighborhood shouting a name that is difficult to say.
I have a female puppy named Lucy and one male that I am fostering named Bo. BOth are short and easy. I like Lucy and Ashley. Look at what the names mean. Lucy - Bringer of Light. Which she does. Lucy is a very happy and LOYAL dog. Ashley - of the ash tree...and if you look up Ash Tree you find that type of tree is known for its strength and ability to bend. It sounds like Ashley would be a good name for your puppy becuase she is able to bend with the situation around her.
Just helpful advice! I am very happy to hear that you saved a puppy. That is a very noble deed. Unfortunately the name is all on you! She will love you no matter what you call her, I promise!

What about Lady? That is close to Leela and since she was probably used to that name...it might be good to keep it similar to not confuse her too much. Or Elia or something close to Leela. Maybe Pepa? I do agree, Leela isn't the best name for a dog, however, it was her name. Good Luck with naming your dog. She sounds fabulous. I have a chocolate lab...dogs are a lot of fun.

If you really watch her close, she will name herself! She will do something that will hit you like a ton of bricks! I've had many dogs, and everyone named themselves. The last one came into the bathroom where I was brushing my teeth with a nose full of mud; hence, Nasty Nose Puppy! Nasty, for short!

it depends on her personality.
like Limbo is the name of a really playful border collie my friend owns.
and 1 of my dogs is named Inka because of her brindle markings.
1 of my other dogs is named Zia becuase she is very sweet, gentle, and we were in New Mexico [where Zia is the native tribe] when we decided to get her.
My old dog was named Maya also becuase she was sweet and gentle.
My male dog is named Aztec becuase of his markings and just to finish the theme of indian tribe names.
Its really up to you. if you still dont know google/yahoo search "dog names"

I think you should call her Hope because you rescued her from being put to sleep, giving her a glimpse of hope at a better life.
