I am interested in a career as a DBA, because I have a degree in business information systems. I understand basic database structures and understand SQL quite well. It seems that DBA is the path I want to go towards. But what exactly do they do? Anybody have an idea so that I can start working from the bottom to become a DBA one day?

I have worked with two types of DBAs. Most usually have the core database administrator knowledge plus another specialty. One of the specialties may be Operating System expertise, or may be expertise in business analysis and software design.
