Actually, braids are not all that great for your hair. The best thing you can do for your is be gentle with it. Don't comb it excessively, and don't put an overload of heat in it. Sadly, no matter what you do to your hair, it has a set length that is determined by your genes and therefore won't grow any longer than it is meant to grow. Your hair is made up of dead cells, so by taking care of your insides by exercising, drinking plenty of water, and eating healthy, you'll push out the dead cells and waste within your body which will in turn feed your hair, nails, etc. Dietary Supplements will help with this as well. There is an excellent book called "Beautiful Skin of Color" that gives great suggestions on skin and hair maintenance. It was written by two female doctors, and even though it is specifically written for people of color, I can't see how it wouldn't benefit any human being. Just remember that if your hair is healthy, it will grow! So focus on keeping your hair healthy (which doesn't always mean cute) and the rest will happen naturally.

The best is doing scalp massages to stimulate the hair follicles for hair growth, and don't cut it just trim ever so slightly every 2 to 3 months depending on how fast your hair grows so you can keep it healthy looking(you dont want to grow out your hair without trimming it every once in a while becausethen you'll just have split and dry ends and that just looks awful) and last but not least patience, just dont obsess about it, when you don't, next thing you know your hair is longer.

Taking Folic Acid will help. You can either get it in a pre-natal vitamin or as a skin, hair & nail supplement which is available at most drug stores and WalMart. Also, keeping the ends healthy is a must.

take a good multi vitamin and try scalp massage. It gets the blood flowing to your hair follicles to make them grow faster and healthier.

My doctor told me to take prenatal vitimins daily to make my hair grow faster. Prenatal vitimins are packed with extra vitimins. You can take even if you're not pregnant or trying to get pregnant. I tried it for my wedding and it totally worked. I doubled the dosage (I checked with my doctor first) and it grew even faster. It's great for nails and skin too.

My only suggestion is that you take vitamin e, and trim your hair every so often. It keeps your heir healthy, and lets it grow faster.
